I’m the 1970’s in NYC, John Lennon was a guest DJ on one of our most popular radio stations here. When asked what he thought the Beatles would have sounded like had they still been together, he said ELO.. I listened LIVE that night. Much love 🙏🏼

Jeff Lynne, who for all intents and purposes IS ELO, produced several albums by Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr after the Beatles broke up. He was good friends with George and later formed the group The Traveling Wilburys with him, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, and renowned session drummer, Jeff Keltner. You should check out "End of the Line" and "Handle with Care" by that group. Jeff Lynne is one of those fabulously talented musicians.

It's the melodies, the instrumentations, the brilliant orchestral arrangements by Louis Clark between 1974 and 1979 (who recently passed away) in the 'lavish years' of ELO, it's the vocals by Jeff Lynne and the perfectly matching backing vocals by Kelly Groucutt. Jeff Lynne had the ability to bring it all together in beautifully written compositions that hit a nerve with so many music lovers. Roughly there are three periods to distinct in the development of Jeff's songwriting and ELO's sound. 1971 - 1974 ELO / ELO 2 / On The Third Day / Eldorado ; where songs lean heavily on themes from both rock and classical music in a bit more rudimentary way 1975 - 1977 Face The Music / A New World Record (incl. this song "Telephone Line") / Out Of The Blue ; where the sound becomes increasingly more pop and lavish in orchestrations 1977 - 1983 + 2001 Discovery / Time / Secret Messages / Balance Of Power / Zoom ; when Jeff Lynne cuts out the big orchestrations, but manages to keep the effectiveness of great pop songs During the eighties and nineties he did quite a few jobs as (co-)producer as well for renowned artists like George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and even Ringo Starr. Many ELO fans will recognize Jeff's signature sound in most of these albums/songs in a heartbeat. And of course, there was this stint as Otis/Clayton Wilbury in The Traveling Wilburys, together with Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and George Harrison.

Man, that telephone sound really gets to me. I'm sure anyone from that era can relate, calling a girl, listening to it ring and ring, no pickup, is she there? Is she gone? where did she go? Should I call back? What if somethings wrong? What if she needs help? What if somebody else is there? What if she went out, where did she go? Who did she go with .... all that runs through your mind on every ring.. no answering machines back then. just ringing ringing ringing.. Sometimes you had to put a coin in the telephone to call, every time you had to call, sometimes the damn phone would eat your coin, or you'd get disconnected and have to dig around for another coin. Oh the telephone, what device, as Waylon said, "sometime's it's heaven, sometime's its hell." And Harri, sometimes we drive to a place, and my wife hops out of the car ready to hit the store, and I'm still sitting there with the engine on and the radio playing, and she'll open the door again and say, what's wrong? What's going on? why are you sitting there? And I point to the radio, and say, I have to listen to the rest of this song. And she get's that exasperated look on her face, she doesn't understand the gravitational pull the music has on me, I just can't pull away. I love your reactions to music Harri, I think people that come here can definitely relate.

This is probably my favourite ELO track. I saw them in late 1980 about 2 weeks after John was murdered. They did a Beatles medley as a tribute and I can tell you they were spot on. I cried. I never really stopped crying for John and now I probably never will. It made a hole in my soul. ELO make the sun come out even on a gloomy day. Today is Sunday and I have been horribly unwell. Am feeling a tad better now (its 930pm). Music cures a lot of things or at least makes you feel something other than unwell. "Here is the News" is fantastic as is "Ticket to the Moon". So happy you found them Harri. x

If you think this is beautiful (which for sure it is!) try a song or two by Jeff from his time in The Idle Race. Simpler songs, less instrument "overload", but oh man, the voice! Harri, don't know if you know this or not but in about 1995 the remaining Beatles were given a few old tunes John had put on cassette tapes. He hadn't completed them. Yoko gave them to Paul, and he and the boys went to work filling in with what they thought John might have done with it so, Free As A Bird was completed and released. Jeff Lynne (ELO) produced it. They wanted George Martin first but he could no longer do it because of his hearing loss. Whether you ever do a review of it or not, I urge you to watch the video...it is packed full of imagery from their entire career, songs and lines of songs. It is filmed from the point of view of a birdI flying around inside a house then out and about. The song is beautiful as well, actually one of my favorites. You never disappoint, Harri...when are you going to give us an address to mail you things you might find interesting and gifts to say thank you. Other reaction channels have done so at our request so don't feel bad. Usually they have an "unboxing" night and show the things the community has sent. Just a suggestion, it's your channel to do as you see fit. Thank you again, Harri. Namaste.
