Geekdom, I respect you, but sometimes your facts are a little muddled. Vegeta saying "It's just super speed!" was just him being a skeptic. Goku immediately proves him wrong when he goes to Roshi's and back. Vegeta's line isn't even a dub error, because he even says it in the manga.

Goku can't just teleport to a location he has been in already. The technique requires him to always lock on to some Ki in order for him to teleport. He outright says in the manga that you have to think of a person, not a place, and feel their Ki. You just reinforced one of the biggest misconceptions about Instant Transmission, good job.

I'm pretty sure Vegeta dismissively said, "So where's the instant movement? Do you think you can fool us with that super speed?" in the manga as well. He then changed his mind after Goku revealed he had gone all the way to the Turtle House. There is an annoying dub change that did happen, which might be what you were thinking of. Goku incorrectly says that he moves at the speed of light when he teleports in the dub.

Uh, it is basically super-speed. It's always been debated whether Z characters are faster than light (when I say this, we're talking traveling, not fighting. In fights, characters are 100% several times faster than light) the games call it Z-vanish and stuff. But it is confused at times with after images.

I always thought that scene with Cooler and Gokou "teleporting" was simply what all the Z fighters were able to do when the fizzle out immediately and reappear elsewhere a short distance away during battle. Like they're traveling so fast, but its sort of through another dimension, cutting the distance. Similar to what Ramona in Scott Pilgrim vs the World does. But I never considered it teleporting because it clearly showed them moving in another dimension. This is probably where some of the idea for a Sharingans abilities came from in Naruto.

Geekdom101 did a good job explaining Goku's shunkaido. But if I were to add stuff to what he said shunkaido is basically: as goku is vanishing out of point A, he is appearing at point B at the EXACT SAME TIME AND EXACT SAME MOMENT. Normal teleportation always had a lag in-between the going out and coming in but shunkaido has none of that. As the line effect appear on his body to show he's vanishing, those same lines are appearing wherever he's vanishing to at the exact same moment. it's kinda complex but when you look at it, it does make sense. Again props to Geekdom. He explained it well. Just wanted to add something.

It would make sense that the Kais would be able to teleport anywhere within the universe. If you know a set location and are familiar with it, you can use Instant Transmission to get there. The Kai are intimately familiar with every part of the universe, since they basically create/curate the universe as a whole. They would know where every planet, every star, just where EVERYTHING is within the universe. So it might be less of "I can do this because I'm a super powerful God" and more of "I'm insanely old and I just stare at the universe all day so i have a ridiculous amount of knowledge about where everything and everyone is within it." Or at least, that's my theory.

Instantaneous movement/Instant Transmission - The only type of instantaneous transfer of information in our universe that is possible, can only happen one way. And that is by a pair of entangled particles. The only other thing in the universe that moves faster than the speed of light(which is to say, the speed of causaility, the ultimate speed limit in the universe with which information can be shared between any two points inside of it) is the expansion of space itself. So if the same could be said for the Dragonball universe, then my theory on how the instant transmission of Goku/The Yardrats, works by the person using their ki to sense the ki of someone else, somewhere in the universe. Once they are locked on to that ki signature, they lock on specifically to one single particle of that ki energy, and replicate it with their own ki so that a pair of entagled particles exists with one at the destination and one at the point of the user. Then when he teleports, the technique uses the location of the only other existing particle as a homing beacon during the transfer process, which when he's teleporting, his body turns into energy briefly enough, allowing it to propogate through the universe, pulling them to the remaining entangled particle like a magnet.

Vegeta did say that it was super speed, but he says this on a mistake on his part, to purposefully differentiate the two techniques, when Goku says "You sure about that?" and then krillin goes on to say LOOK, those are roshi's sunglasses, those are over 7,000 miles away. This was in the kai dub too, so I don't think it was an error.

What i find weird is simple mortals like goku can learn teleportation to pop back and forth anywhere in the universe, the kais can do the same thing as if its a standard thing to know and yet whis still states it takes him 20 minutes or so to go across the universe. Goku uses the instant transmission technique while Kibito and other gods use the instantaneous movement. The difference being that Goku can *only* teleport to energy sources he feels. But not just to arbitrary places even if he has visited them before. If the latter was the case he wouldn't need Whis to take him to Beerus' planet and he certainly wouldn't need Gohan or Trunks to power up in the RoF arc or the Future Trunks arc respectively.
