333.3 Tracción Rail by Getafe Industrial

Tracción Rail Class 333.3 (EMD with turbocharged 645 engine) passing by Getafe Industrial (Spain). There is a temporary speed limit to 30km/h just before and the locomotive needed to accelerate to full throttle quickly. I don't know if it was because of the high temperatures or something else, but I'm not used to see these machines with such a black smoke. Serie 333.3 (EMD con motor turbo 645) de Tracción Rail pasando por Getafe Industrial. Hay una limitación temporal a 30km/h justo antes y la locomotora ha tenido que acelerar al máximo. The engine is a turbocharged EMD desel engine of type 645 with 16 cylinders and developing 3300 HP. It is the same engine that carry the SD40-2 locomotives in the USA. It is by far my favourite engine. In the UK you have class 66 and 67, but they have the more modern 710 engine. We also have this 710 engine in Spain with class 335 and class 334, and the sound is similar, but not the same. I like much more the sound of the 645 engine. But it is not normal that this lokomotive has such a black smoke in the exhaust, because the engines are two stroke and the smoke should be more grey like.

@@teles333 Yeah I noticed the 335s smoke quite a lot when on full power. The 333s make a lot more noise which I like! I will have to return to Spain and see these beasts 😎

@@HSTHoward, this locomotive is subclass 333.3 which is a complete rebuild of the original class 333 (but maintaining the original 645 engine and alternator and traction motors). The class 333.3 has the EMD2000 super series power control system and exhaust silencer and unfortunately it sounds less than the original 333 from 1974. There is an original 333 which is preserver and is around today. If you search for 333-107 aafm you will find it.
