This is the first interview I have watched of anything Television. I had heard they didn't like interviews. That's a shame if true because this was so interesting.

I think that's a big part of what made them so interesting: Lloyd had the more "mainstream" rock influences, Verlaine had the jazz influences, and they combined it into something new.

If you can't hear a difference in the two guitar styles on Marquee Moon you aren't listening.. Tom melodically drones and tremolo picks.. Richard actually plays with practiced lead guitar skill.. example the first guitar solo in Marquee Moon is Richard... The long melodic meandering solo in the middle is Tom.

yeah they have extremely different styles. hard to think that the songs would even be close to as good without lloyd's tasteful leads

Check out Richards album Alchemy and you'll hear his style and its easy to go back and tell who's playing what

The interplay between Lloyd and Verlaine is obviously a big part of Television's sound, but I think Lloyd's playing is the key to what makes their songs so appealing.

@@bunnylands916 agree - with only Tom it might get a little to meandering.

They don't take dummies at Stuyvesant High School -- this is what happens when you apply supreme intellect to rock music.

I agree, but I know what he means. The interplay IS very close on those first two records, and it's not until after heavy study that you can instantly recognise the styles.

If you realy take the time to listen you can hear who is playing what.

Verlaine is very distinctive, I can tell his playing a mile-off. Richard is good....but he's no Verlaine.
