Telkonet EcoSmart Thermostat Hack

How to hack the Telkonet EcoSmart thermostat that you find in some hotels.

As a Holiday Inn maintenance supervisor that just went through installing a system with these, though you can adjust the setpoint lower, the ac unit itself often has a lower limit that it won't go below even if the thermostat tells it to. In the case of my location, the set point is 68 both at the unit and the thermostat. A better approach to make the room go cooler in this case would be to adjust the 'calibration' setting instead of the 'setpoint min' setting. This way you can turn the calibration temperature up, effectively fooling the system into thinking it is warmer than it actually isn't so that it will run cooler.

If their maintenance is up to snuff, checking the therm calibration should be part of their regular preventative maintenance. Therefore, it should be caught within a month or two at most. Having a therm out of calibration is a pretty minor issue anyway.

Exact same situation I am in. Looks like 68 is a default system setting. Is there a deadband or cycle time adjustment?

Anyone know how to disable the IR sensor or just keep the fan on. I hate when the room gets dead silent while you're sleeping and then kicks back on.

Better than any of that -go to recovery, set it 0 and you have disabled the occupancy sensor.

I am on my 1 year anniversary with my wife at the Disney’s Dolphin resort, this room has ECO smart AC Thank you for the AC hack Adam! The rooms minimum was locked to 65 but their master system was set to a max of 56. Needless to say, we’ll be sleeping comfortably! Thank you again

This is a good way to get sued, I work for marriot no matter what you do 65 is as low as the liquid cooled system will go, messing with the settings will lock up the compressor and you card will get charged for damages and fyi you signed a agreement to repay any damages, don't listen to this guy. In some states this will result in charges for damages legally

Thanks for the post. I’ve been trying to find a hack video for months for this brand of thermostat. I’m fairly certain the Courtyard Marriott in Westbury NY has a master setting of 63, but with your video I was able to change it from 65 to 63.

Just because you adjust the thermostat setpoint lower doesn't mean that your temperature will lower. If you have more than sufficient heat load the unit will continuously run but the temperature will not lower. You lowering the setpoint is a placebo effect.

It gives the instructions on how to get into the maintenance menu which is basically the same as my video. You could try changing the calibration in the maintenance menu to make it think it's hotter than it is so it stays in cooling mode. I unfortunately am not at a hotel with that thermostat or I would record those instructions.

Can you tell me how to enable Heat mode? The one in my room is set-up so that it only cools (even though it's winter!). I am able to access the maintenance menu, but after that I don't know what to do.

@@Kiido11 Hi, I’m more than happy to help you. In the front of the EcoAir( thermostat) are to small buttons…one with a fire 🔥 flame symbol and other with snow ❄️ symbol. If you need heat just press the one with the flame 🔥.

@@Kiido11 Hi again, I understand and for that You have two options. For the first one is almost impossible because you need a computer with the program and access to the account. I can show a video how is that. Second option you can call Telkonet in Milwaukee because the reason is the thermostat is set just for cool mode. They can make the changes for you trough the sistem.
