I was recently in hospital for three days. A hospital menu booklet was given to me (Advent Health hospital) on the front of it was the statement: Believe in the power of food. It was something I could take home with me, and I did. It sits on my counter where I prepare the meals. Every day now I tell myself, "believe in the power of food." A balanced diet.

Most supplements have an easy way to tell if you're getting too much and you should back off awhile. I'm not talking about an overdose. Please don't overdose; do your research. With B6, it's exceptionally vivid dreams. With zinc, too much will give you a metallic taste in your mouth. Not enough and your sense of taste and smell will be reduced. Too much vitamin C will loosen your bowels; not enough will give you mouth sores or skin rash. B vitamins can change the smell or color of your urine. Not enough D3 will make you anxious or depressed. Honestly, it's a fascinating subject. If you dont want to do the research, take the advice of a professional. But I recommend doing the research.

@@ashleys4263 An alternative perspective is that a mineral can be high because other co-factors for it's utilization are missing so the mineral in question builds up. The problem is that we look at serum levels and not tissue levels, and we don't have ways of measuring many of the nutrients with accuracy and relevance. So, high is low and low is high .. mind boggling. Personally, eating a lot of pastured beef (we live in Alberta) seems to have corrected all my highs and lows over time. These are cattle raised in the Foothills which are naturally irrigated with glacier meltwater from the Rockies. Lots of minerals in the soil and spring water.

It's astonishing that copper and zinc aren't usually included in anemia blood testing panels given the intricate roles they play. You usually have to request a copper or zinc panel specially and certain labs charge extra or won't draw it. Interestingly, there's some weird link to copper deficiencies in neurodivergent people or people with hypermobility. I think it might be because some of the genes don't cause it to be absorbed as well. Certain chronic infections are also linked to copper deficiency bc the bacteria utilizes the copper. I had undiagnosed Lyme disease and developed a copper deficiency from it.

Anyone else on the copper IUD? How has it been for you?
@bellaa84773 ай бұрын
I had a copper IUD for a while and had it taken out because I started developing weird symptoms. I had heard of people having bad reactions from these IUD's before I put it in and asked the nurse about it. She said it was pseudoscience and I didn't need to worry so I kind of forgot about it. After I took it out I immediately had a hair mineral analysis done because excess copper is stored in tissues and hair. It showed elevated copper levels. I had another analysis done in 6 months and the levels had gone down. Doctors will usually brush it off when you tell them things like this so I never bothered. The companies that make IUD's say the copper don't absorb in the body but it sure did for me. My symptoms gradually went away after I had my IUD taken out though. Some quicker than others. That's evidence enough for me. Anyway, that's my experience. I felt I should share 🧡

@@bellaa8477 thank you for taking the time to share. I’ve had mine in for a year now. I went through absolutely horrific pain when it was inserted. For six months, I had really sharp pains on and off like every other day in my pelvis area. I was seriously considering getting it removed, but thank goodness after six months it stopped. Now I only get pains every so often, but the weird thing is some months my periods are really bad, and other months they are fine. If I knew what was coming, I probably wouldn’t have had it inserted in the first place, but now that I’ve gone through all these ups and downs I feel like I might as well just leave it in until I want to have a kid.

@@itsmahsa2541 I'm sorry you've had such troubles from it. I hope it will be better from here on. Aside from the issues I had I actually think it's one of the best contraceptives I ever tried. I had no pain from insertion or using it and weirdly enough I had less bleeding. I wish it would have worked out.

I had the Paraguard in 2007 , hated it, and had it taken out probably under 6 months after. I was having problems with my eyes and lots of strange bloating . Weird painful periods. Developed an ovarian cyst that hemorrhaged and eventually had to have laparoscopic surgery to have it removed. Wouldn’t recommend.

@@bellaa8477 I similarly had a bad reaction to Paragard.

Can you do one on elevated copper levels?

I had sky high copper levels. We finally figured out that apparently hormonal birth control pills can cause it to build up.

Anyone who has ONE dr in this healthcare shortage crisis is lucky. I’m guessing anyone with a team of them must be wealthy.
