Cedar Point is still one of the best for rollercoasters. Loved going there. Enjoying the walk-and-talk style of BTS videos. Something to look at while listening to your commentary. Although, being a walking legend in KL, I do understand how dangerous this endeavor could be. Be careful, my friend and thanks for the video.

I think there was a time when Cedar Point added a brand new roller coaster every year. It felt like that anyway. And there was much excitement about just how fast and crazy this new roller coaster was going to be. I think there was a new one each year that I went. I often never rode on them because lineups were so long. I'd go to my old favorites instead, where there was no lineup, and ride them over and over. I started doing the walk-and-talk BTS videos mainly because I found myself with no time to do the standard "sit-on-my-hotel-bed" videos. I was often heading out early in the morning to meet up with you or someone else or get some errand done. And then I figured I would make those things do double-duty. I could shoot the BTS video WHILE I was on my way to do something else. On the positive side, there are things to look at in the video. But it does take a lot more energy. In this video, my goal was to buy sandals at the shopping mall. But I was so tired and hot and sweaty by the time I got to the mall, I had no energy to actually do the shopping. And a lot of that fatigue had to do with the walking and talking with a GoPro. 🤪 Plus, by walking-and-talking and showing everything around me, it now begs the question of what is the difference between a BTS video and a regular Planet Doug video? The distinction starts to blur. But I do like making them. Calling it a BTS video kind of removes any pressure you might feel to do something amazing. It allows me a kind of mental freedom to do just whatever I want and film myself doing random daily tasks. There's no pressure that the video has to be about something special.

I realized that later on. In terms of getting the facts right, I failed my own test. You're right. There are 272 steps, NOT 242 as I said in the video. 🤪

What happens to Planet Doug? Why Planet Doug Behind the Scenes?
@planetdougbehindthescenes

I've had this channel for a couple of years now. I created it as a place for me to put audio or video journals. I always keep a written journal. And the original idea was to simply read aloud from my journal when there was an interesting story to tell. So, the video wouldn't be about a live travel experience. It would be about me just sitting in front of the camera and talking as I tell the story. You know how a movie might have a "making of" featurette? This channel was supposed to be like that. I would make a normal Planet Doug video. And then I could make a video about MAKING the first video. I would tell all the "Behind the Scenes" stories that didn't make it into the main video. I don't know if that makes any sense, but in my mind, there is a big difference between the main Planet Doug channel videos and these Behind-the-Scenes videos. So, "Planet Doug" still exists. That's my main KZbin channel. This channel is just a place for "bonus" videos and extra behind-the-scenes stories. I just have fun with it and don't take it so seriously.

Back when I went to KL a lot, I always took the KLIA Ekspres - mostly out of ignorance, though. I was a poor student, but I also wasn't so well traveled and when I saw a fast and not overly expensive way to get into the city center, I also just stopped looking. And regarding "The Best Ten Things" - I think it is mostly SEO. There must be some place video creators learn what people look for and then they name their video based on those things and only start filming once they know what keywords they want to target. No wonder these people burn out after a while. 😅

When you break down the cost, the KLIA Ekspres isn't really that expensive, I guess: 55 ringgit or $11.50 US. That's not bad for a fast and comfortable and convenient trip from an airport that is nearly 70 kilometers away. I think this topic jumped out at me because taking the airport bus is such an ingrained habit in me. Back in the old days, it was just what everyone did to save money. And then that habit just continued until today whether it still made sense or not. And then there is this idea that we KZbin vloggers do want to present ourselves as being somewhat adventurous and wanting to get to now the local culture and society. And from that perspective, using cheap local transportation is seen as a good thing. So it does surprise me how automatic it seems to be for EVERYONE to head straight for the KLIA Ekspres. As I said in the video, the lowly airport bus doesn't even get a mention as an option. 🙂 And I still like the idea of thinking of money in terms of purchasing power. Therefore, you can spend 55 ringgit on the KLIA Ekspres. OR you can spend 15 ringgit on the airport bus and then have 40 ringgit to spend on a really nice dinner when you get downtown. Of course, if you can afford both the KLIA Ekspres AND the really nice dinner, that's even better. 😀

Back in those days, cars were a lot simpler. And I think people had less money. There was an entire subculture of high school kids taking old, rusty cars and fixing them up. I remember lots of talk about "Bondo" to fix holes in rusty cars. That was pretty standard back then. So, for me to have my own tools and an engine manual and try to keep an old car running was a normal thing to do. I don't think you can do that anymore. Cars are much more sophisticated and complicated. And I think the laws are much stricter about safety standards and emissions now. Cars like my old Celica and Corolla probably wouldn't be allowed on the road today in Canada. 😀

Yep. 😎 And it makes sense when you think about it. I live in more of a world of low budget backpackers who dabble in a little bit of adventure travel. And I tend to think that this is interesting for everyone. But it's actually quite rare. Most people who come to Malaysia are coming here for a standard two-week vacation from their job and their regular life back in their own country. So, they would be interested in going to a nice cocktail bar or rooftop bar to look at the views at night. There's a certain interest in pleasure and having a good time. And the details of a particular tourist attraction like Batu Caves don't really matter. Just as long as it looks beautiful they're happy. And his video is upbeat and fast paced. Personality and tone are an acquired taste I guess. His mannerisms and style are far from mine. But other people might love it. 😁

It all worked out in the end. I was running late, and I needed that extra time to finish up my video about what's in my camera bag. 😎 And if you're promising me complimentary coffee and sandwiches, you can be as late as you like. 👍
