I love listening to your stories. They make my day that much brighter. Just as a side note, I am an only child, so I have always had my own bed. However, my mother has 9 sisters and 3 brothers. When she was growing up there were only 4 rooms in their house, so she had to share a room with 4 of her sisters. I have heard many stories of their bed and how they would fight over it and push each other out sometimes in the middle of the night.

Hey Peter! Loved your choice of music. I am from Colorado, and had the privilege of meeting and knowing John Denver. He really was a wonderful person. Grandma's feather bed! My husband laughs at me, because I sleep with pillows all around me as if I'm sleeping in a feathered nest! It feels so comfy and gives one a feeling of security. Thanks for your wonderful memory!

Loving the stories. I don't think you need counselling for hating shopping. The anxiety seems pretty normal. Thank you for a window on a generation I no longer have in my real life.

You're so sweet! It's rare that I have the time to watch your videos because they tend to be long but when I do I enjoy it so much! In fact, I'm less than 3 minutes into this one and adore you more already!

Peter, thanks, I have had a 1920s sofa remade with feathers and am often tempted to go and sleep on that. Since my wife left me six years ago, I found sleeping in the 'regular' bed always rather strange, so a feather chaise longue sort of thing is a handy occasional comfort.

A delightful episode, Peter. Both stories poignant and funny, a growing hallmark, really, of your work. As for the psychological counseling for your shopping "phobia," a pro would say it seems like you've managed just fine when it comes to the things you care about (what kind of video card was that, again?)

Thanks Peter. I dread shopping too - and I'm female and everyone assumes women like to shop. Not this one. Thanks to the internet I get most of what I need online. Might be tough to buy a bed that way - but if it can be done that's what I'd do!

Well that brings back memories! Must get the wife to listen to this soon, she still remembers rolling to the center of the bed, also if you slept with gran ma and pa. you ended up in the middle with the cover high above you and the cold air coming down you! Very funny, have not thought of that in years.

Hi Peter~~Say, have you ever heard of the North Platte Canteen? My Mom and Dad spent one day working at the North Platte Canteen when they were just dating; they belonged to a group called Rural Youth of America. Good blog material. Good book~~Once Upon a Town by Bob Greene. Love the bed shopping story! :-)

Hello, I have just subscribed to KZbin after watching some of you're videos, just so I could always find them! The type of bed you described from you're childhood is the exact same I have now, minus the feather mattress. My bed is 3/4, metal framed, wooden spindled head and footboard with a spring that is sagging. I have had it for many years..although I'm only 21.

Peter - The bed people do have us by the . . . as we all do need to sleep. Beds here in America cost thousands of dollars. Many are high tech - space materials, adjustable air bags, etc. Oh well, I guess that we need to get some geese and start plucking . . . Peter

When I was little I used to share a room with my sister (separate beds). And for some reason I remember once waking up in her bed and her waking up in mine not knowing how that happened. Did you not go to any fireworks displays this weekend, then?

Can I ask why you didn't feel comfortable anymore in the big comfortable room with the nicest view? I am assuming you missed your wife. My Mum got rid of her new double bed after my step dad passed away and moved into the small bedroom with the single bed. Love your chats. Tracy.

Ah, there does come a time when parents decide there are certain things boys must do separately and not together. For my first two boys, it was bathtime. After one lost part of a tooth because of the other smashing his head on the bottom of the tub, tub time together ended. LOL! They were loads younger though. Like 4 and 6. Love the shopping story. Don't know of any men who enjoy shopping Peter; I guess that's a womens sport.
