There are a few deeper threads running through this story. Emma and Alba’s last name is Smith. Smith is David’s movie producer alias, he’s been using it for years. Emma thought David was parked out front to “watch over her while she’s sleeping” but David was watching a suspect in her building and using her as his cover…exactly like Ava. Mike is the head of operation “Green Dagger”. He’s been David’s handler for years. He refers to breaking down and rebuilding David’s personality as a similar process to making a knife. He knows he’s destroying David’s mind, it’s intentional. What was Karen typing into the search engine at the start of the game? She originally types the letters: “BR” before deleting them and typing “love”. Why would Karen sacrifice her career to expose her boss, Mike? David doesn’t recognize her as anyone special to him in their few brief interactions. In fact they have a few videos where they are “getting to know each other” all from David’s side only, so we never hear Karen. Karen however, does give several indicators that she knows David. Mostly I’m referencing David’s surprised and puzzled looks and answers to the unheard questions, but also Karen references being a friend of David’s from “California”. “California” is used multiple times as a code reference for one of David’s previous undercover missions, the one where he “made strait to dvd movies for rich guys who paid to star in their own films”, “mostly beach horrors” he told the organizing group when asked. So why did Karen type “love”? What was “Br” going to be? Why is Karen doing this? Where is she going after she lights the cigarette just before the final scene? What was David’s real last name? It’s not Jones (eco warrior alias) and it’s not Smith either (California alias). Watch the very first video in the list that the game pulls up for you at the very start. David is answering Ava’s question: “Have you ever been in love?” David answers: “once when I was 18, but I was young and stupid and messed it up. I guess I still carry a torch for her.” David seems genuine in that moment, and he isn’t referencing Emma. Why did Karen pull that video up first? Why would Karen risk and sacrifice everything shes worked for her entire life, to shut down Mike and Green Dagger? I’m not sure but it obviously has something to do with…..”Love”.

david's real last name is probs miller, as thats the only one that seems to fit

@@Destroyer_Of_Rats but the drug dealer (can’t remember his name) from “California” refers to David as David Miller. The dealer believes David Miller is a movie producer, not an undercover FBI agent. Miller is the California alias (I think i misstated it as Smith in my original comment). Smith is the Emma and Paul case alias, Jones is the eco-warrior. None of those names are David’s real name. I imagine that only 2 of the cast actually even know it, and that’s Mike and Karen. I’m still unsure of Karen’s relationship with Mike and David. I still can’t tell if she is just a whistleblower who stumbled onto Mike’s MKUltra-like program, was involved in it the whole time, or infiltrated it purposely. I don’t know if the answers are in the game, but the questions definitely are. Karen is our protagonist, not David. Mike is our antagonist, not the “eco terrorists”. Karen sacrifices her career and possibly her life itself for a shot to take Mike down. To me, that indicates that she had strong motivations, meaning she didn’t just stumble onto the program, or that if she did, it’s because she has some sort of ties to one of its victims.

This makes me think you haven't seen all the videos. The very first video is David speaking with Mike, not Ava. He's rehearsing his cover story. And when did we ever get a "getting to know each other" between David and Karen? Let alone any video we only have one side of? Never. You can always find the other side of a call, so there is no call where we only have "David's surprised and puzzled looks" to "unheard questions" Karen only shows up in videos twice, and one is a call about ending the mission, and the other isn't even a call at all.
