Jodie, if you have to have someone swearing at you, Key is the best choice. Nobody could get angry at his adorable face. I bought boots for my Sadie, and she would not wear them. I'll start off my comment with potential solutions as i dont think that shoe fits husky paws. Then if you're not feeling up to the emotional bit (I'll note when that starts), you don't need to read it. The boots you likely want need to have a sock portion that goes up & the brace can go around the cuff. You can "train" Key by getting a pair or socks that are equally as long as the boot cuffs & having him wear that in the house all the time. I had bought some foot bandages for my cat that might work well on a dog if you want a disposable option or his toes are bleeding. My cat hasn't needed to use them for his pillow foot yet, so I can't say how it does with slick fur (though my cat does have a very slick coat,too). The first product/link, the one I got, is for Amazon US. The 2nd is for a similar, but not exactly the same, Amazon UK product that comes in either breathable or waterproof. We lost my husky fur brother in Dec '23 to a fast/aggressive cancer that took all of a month from symptoms to start & then him passing, barely holding on overnight for the vet who visited to help him pass more gently. His half brother by blood belongs to by human brother (both puppies adopted at same time), but the family decided not to bring him over. Our husky fur-sister was there & able to sniff over everything when he passed. She hasn't had any issues with grief, just the same constant demand for attention as usual, but I think Key & his bff were bonded even more than any of the 3 huskies in my family were. I know it will really be hard to watch Key look for his bff at Jamie's, but it will probably be easier on everyone & Key deserves a chance to say goodbye to his best friend. Of course, i wouldn't film any of it unless it's for personal use. None of you need to feel like you need to be "on" while processing this grief together. ❤️‍🩹

Maybe he needs a modified boot? Since you have that small boot that you can't use, maybe you can experiment and modify it so it protects his claws, but exposes his pads while also holding up the brace? It seems like the trick is to protect his claw while letting his foot hit evenly.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but you can get longer boots that act as an ankle brace as well as a boot. We had one for our labrador and it worked a treat. The lower half looks like a normal boot, but the upper half is 3 or 4 velcro straps that go so far up past the ankle.

Can you create a leather pad that is affixed to the back bottom of his brace and comes up over the toes and connects to the front bottom of it? I know he is an au natural ebony not wanting to wear the harness because it feels “odd” and he doesn’t like his boots for the same reason. I know the pad of the paws are sensitive so something that blocks that contact feels inhibiting too. Poor K’ey and poor Jodie for having to be super creative in all things K’ey. ❤
