This was amazing - I've seen so many blogs really mess this up and only teach 7, 7:15, 7:30, and 7:45 and then tell students that they know everything they need to know about the time. Even the Dutch books to study for NTII - by Boom Uitgeverij ... do a really shytty job with this.

It's very surprising that my language (Indonesian) uses the same way as in Dutch (I think Indonesian adopted it from Dutch). Clock in Indonesia also uses the 24-hour format. 05.00 = Het is vijf uur. Indonesian: Ini jam lima. 05.05 = Het is vijf over vijf. Ind: Ini jam lima lebih lima. 05.15 = Het is kwart over vijf. Ind: Ini jam lima lebih seperempat. 05.20 = Het is tien voor half zes. Ind: Ini jam setengah enam kurang sepuluh. 05.30 = Het is half zes. Ind: Ini jam setengah enam. 05.40 = Het is twintig voor zes. Ind: Ini jam enam kurang dua puluh. OR Ini jam setengah enam lebih sepuluh. 05.45 = Het is kwart voor zes. Ind: Ini jam enam kurang seperempat. Lima = Vijf Enam = Zes Sepuluh = Tien Dua puluh = twintig Jam/pukul = Uur Seperempat = kwart Setengah = half Lebih/lewat = over Kurang = voor

@@ngobeem Di sini, "het is" (bahasa Belanda) dan "it is" (bahasa Inggris) hanya merupakan "dummy pronouns" (sebenarnya tidak punya arti, tapi diharuskan oleh aturan tata bahasa/gramatika). Jadi tidak perlu diterjemahkan menjadi "ini" dalam bahasa Indonesia, karena selain tidak natural, malah menjadi tidak sesuai tata bahasa Indonesia. Sebaiknya cukup diterjemahkan: jam/pukul ... . Bisa juga diterjemahkan: Sekarang/saat ini jam .... , karena "het is/it is" dalam "present tense" menunjuk ke waktu saat ini (badingkan dengan "het was/it was ...")

Met de half uuren hebben we in Hongarije de hetselfte method. Bijvorbeeld in jouw video was half twalf (11:30) en in het hongaars is fél tizenkettő, maar het rest is anders. Het is nu kwart over vijf. Bedankt jouw video!

Wat mij opvalt in de reacties is dat het voorvoegsel 's vaak verkeerd wordt gebruikt. Vroeger zei en schreef men 'des avonds'. In feite betekende dat 'van de avond'. In spreektaal werd dit verkort in 's (apostrof s). In plaats van 'de' kwam er de apostrof. Die apostrof staat dus altijd VOOR de s: 's. Aan het begin van een zin blijft die s een onderkast s: 's Avonds is het donker. Hier worden - ook door Nederlanders - veel fouten mee gemaakt. Tenslotte, de tijdnotatie in het Nederlands is 23.15 uur. Dus niet 23:15 uur of HR. Die dubbele punt is een Engelse notatie die we kennen van digitale klokjes. Die worden immers vaak in Engelstalige gebieden gemaakt. Maar in Nederland is het scheidingsteken tussen de uren en de minuten gewoon een punt. Hier is het nu twaalf over negen 's ochtends.

's = des. Het is een oud woord en het betekent "in de" of "van de". Dus 's morgens = in de morgen, en 's Gravenhage = van de Gravenhage. Maar meestal zeggen we Den Haag :)
