We were created to be feminine in relation to God and masculine in relation to creation. Adam in his sin inverted this hierachy, feminizing himself in relation to creation (original simp), while pridefully attempting to masculinize himself in relation to God (like the phallic tower of babel pointing up toward the heavens), which of course is impossible. Paradoxically, the more we feminize ourselves in relation to God, emptying ourselves in kenosis, the more masculine we become in relation to creation, having power to tread on serpents and scorpions.

The original simp 😂 I nearly drowned out of laughter. Well said. ✝️. I never thought of it that way, us men originally meant to be feminine in relation to God.

A beautiful and insightful video! The insight that motion is part of existence, and thus God must somehow entail motion, is paramount. This also suggests why reality should more so be defined as a timespace versus spacetime (the mistake of making time relative to space, versus space as entailing time fundamentally, has been very consequential). The points on the indivisibility of anthropology and ontology, on how communal ontology isn’t a contradiction because God is a community, and how it was “not good” for Adam to be alone since that made him “not like the Trinity,” were all outstanding. Well done!

I highly recommend "On the Cosmic Mystery of Jesus Christ", a collection of writings by St Maximus the Confessor (if you haven't already read it) for more about the reality/necessity/primacy of motion.

@@telosbound It's a pleasure my friend, and that insight from Leithart is indeed stunning. It's amazing that no matter how many times you read the Bible, there's still more to be found in its pages, isn't it? The notion of "the other" as "the self of myself" is also incredibly beautiful. God bless you as well, my friend! May this be a wonderful and blessed season for you and yours.

I first encountered this in Paul Evdokimov’s book on marriage, The Sacrament of Love. “The aim of the Christian life is to make every human being a mother, predestined for the mystery of birth, ‘in order that Christ be formed in you.’ […] The Nativity then expresses the charism of every woman to give birth to God in ruined souls.” For as much as people chide women for their “I can fix him” tendencies, it really is a holy impulse that is natural to women and will inevitably be a feature of any love she has with a man. When you understand and respect this, it really makes the “toll paid” people look like absolute fools who know nothing of love (and even here I’m granting them the charitable interpretation that they are concerned with women who choose bad men and aren’t just being racist.)

So good! Telosbound, taking faith from superficiality to deep reality. I was raised in the latin church. One issue I always had was that the priests were forbidden to marry. As I married and had children of my own, I realized how deeply flawed priestly singleness is. God has blessed me and made me a better man through my family.

celibacy is better than marriage, but making it mandatory is the problem. not virginity in itself.
@OldScrewl192811 ай бұрын
@@adenise__122 Thank God your parents didn't think that. Celibacy is fine for the VERY few who are called to it. But marriage and family are the foundation of creation. In no way is virginity better than marriage. Genesis 1:28 "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply".

I have thought a lot about this topic and I've concluded that we are created this way (male and female) because God knew exactly what was going to happen. He knew that Adam was going to sin anyways, doesn't matter if it was with or without Eve. The problem is that after the fall there would be only death. So God gave Adam a wife, so she could bring him both death and Life(Christ). We are not and cannot be images of the Triune God but only of the person of Christ, simply because we are made in Him and through Him. We are made in two parts(male/female) so we could learn to love and to sacrifice ourselves for the other in order to accept Christ fully and truly. Because if we can't love fully someone of our own imperfect nature how could we be able to love the perfect God Himself? Secondly the spousal and paternal love are two different kinds of love. And relationships between husband and wife or parent and his child is just an imperfect image of the love that the person's of the Trinity have for us as creatures. Thus the spousal love reflects the love that Christ has for the Church(Paul says it) and the paternal love reflects the love of the Father for us as His creatures in his Son. We cannot reflect in any way the unity in the Trinity because we as creatures have different love for each other but God has an absolute, eternal, perfect, love for Himself. All three persons have the same love for each other. If I am wrong somewhere please correct me God bless and have a bright and loving holidays!

Is the reason why homosexuality and incest are sins is because it's a form of self-relation? They are essentially moving towards someone too much like themselves in a manner that's reserved for someone who is sufficiently other.

The building of the woman out of the adam is in the context of the animals. Adam is formed from the ground and has the breath of life just as the animals do. The woman is not formed from the ground but is built from adam. This shows that she is not an animal and also results in him not being an animal. If the woman had been found amongst the animals it would have been because she was an animal. She would have had to be made from the ground just as adam and the animals were. If she was an animal then so too would adam have been for she was to be his complement. That she is not found amongst the animals and that she is built out of him tells us how adam is not an animal. It tells us how he is the image of God... how he is completed as the image of God ...how he is like God. Now back in Gen 1 we had the singularity/ plurality enigmas. How can God speak in the plural in v26 yet be described in the singular in v27. How can Adam be described in both singular terms (him ...also I take adam of v26 and ha-adam of v27 to be singular terms. ...a man and the man) and plural terminology (them and male and female)? The answer to these enigmas and to what is necessary for adam to be the image of God is found in Gen 2 and the building of woman out of man. The one adam is built into two persons. There is an essential unity and oneness to man and woman (and subsequently mankind. ...many persons). All this gives us a definition of an essential element of persons - persons of necessity must possess an essential oneness. If a living being does not possess this essential oneness they are not persons... they are only animals. The animals, the other living beings do not possess this essential oneness. I propose that the overlooking of this biblical definition of personhood underlies difficulties with accepting and understanding the trinity. We think, we assume, that for mankind our individual being equals our personhood ie. We assume one being = one person. Whereas woman built out of man tells us that we are persons because we have one essential being and not individual beings. The singularity / plurality enigmas of Gen 1 have been solved/explained in the building of woman out of man. If Adam is a person then another person can only come from the person adam .(they must have an essential oneness to be persons) and yet at the same time the building of eve completes him and verifies that he is a person. It is this singular/plural Adam who is like God.
