Temma admiring hololive EN/ID girls and regretting not having studied foreign languages in the past

As someone who's almost done with high school (scientific-oriented) and feels like most of what I learnt won't really be of use and I'll just end up forgetting it, I really relate to Temma.
It's cool he would want to be an English teacher, I can already imagine it being really cute. (I'll now go brainrot imagining children interacting with kishi noises)

i remember really feeling for him while listening to this, like having the urge to hug him. temma's been doing his best lately, he's just inspiring on so many levels. and tbh it's not the jp folks fault that the english learning situation in the japanese curriculum isnt exactly conducive to absorbing the language. at any rate im just rooting so hard for temma and all the folks who are giving their all in learning a new language

it's not just Japan, but most of Asia, if I'm being honest. I slept through most of my English classes back in middle-high school and still got top scores. I learned most of my English from playing video games, especially dialogue heavy ones like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Honestly, those two games did far more for my English comprehension than any school lessons ever did for me.

I heard somewhere that japan english language focus more on the written aspect of the language thus the speaking part seems to be neglected, i am not sure if its true tho

Thanks for clipping this! I've sensed this about Temma where he seems to have a natural inclination for learning, teaching, and supporting others. When he started these EN streams earlier this year, I could tell just how natural it was for him. It made me want to support him and watch more. And the way he can bring Miyabi out of slumps is admirable. Pre-pandemic, I decided to add on to my elementary education background with a TESOL certificate and hopefully go teach English in Japan to better understand their curriculum and the shortcomings. Obviously that didn't happen (and I'm teaching English domestically now until things improve), but his streams make me look forward to future opportunities. It's people like him that make it worthwhile. Linguistics, language acquisition, and language teaching are all a lot of fun, so I'm rooting for him.

As someone who can only feel like learning out of impulse and oftentimes cut short, he's really admirable. Seeing someone to last in heccin university and still having the inclination to learn after inspires me to work harder as well. Thank you for the tl and clip!

I usually jump around other Stars, but from Temma I do remember his English study streams. He's clearly taken this to heart and even by my standards the language level of ID2 and NijiEN3 is amazing. I studied Spanish Chinese and Japanese but to be able to speak all three at a conversational level would take me a lot of effort (granted I don't have the immersion), yet they're able to so it really impresses me. We do have to take into consideration Stars and any pre-gen 4 JP Hololive had no idea English would become such an important part of their job. The expectations were different so their kouhai naturally begin on a different level of talent.

Temma is pretty much saying what we non-Japanese speakers wish we did when we were young. If only I learned Japanese sooner, I would appreciate the JP talents more...

For people that dont really understand why ID girls (and sometimes ID viewers) are often fluent in more than one languages, its because our education system. In a way, you need to be good at certain level if you want to graduate (elementary, junior high, and high school). When I was in elementary school, we started studying English in 2nd grade (but it was a private catholic school, so they have 2 different class, writing and speaking, usually in public school its just one class, English). Same as Junior high (still in private school), but they added one more language class, for me it was Japanese. Then in High school (I went to public school) I learned English, German, and Japanese. Unlike some school system in western countries, we cant pick and choose class. Its a mandatory class so you are forced to be decent at it. And it depends on the school, there are school that have french, dutch, and so on. And sometimes you dont only study one extra languages, sometimes it can be German plus Japanese, or any other languages. But Indonesian and English are always mandatory in any education level. So sometimes you can be stuck with Indonesian + English + extra language + extra language 2. This is the biggest reason why many of us, Indonesians that watch online contents, sometimes are fluent in more than 1 - 2 languages. Not only that, we have many local languages here, so we are used to listening to languages that we dont even fluent in, and little by little learn it. At least thats how I learned Korean and my mother tongue (my local language for my tribe, Bataknese).

I think this kind of education system applies to kids who went to international schools, mostly in Asian countries. I went to international schools in my country as well and we had to choose between Mandarin Chinese and Spanish in Primary School, which was mandatory. I transferred to a different school in middle school and the language classes became elective. We had Arabic, Turkish, Russian and so on but I didn’t attend them since I wanted to focus on the main subjects.

@@kimssi97 well in international school here have more than 2 languages class I think, but in my school (mine is public school) there are 2 classes, english and Mandarin. my friend from another city also has 2 classes, japanese and english as language class . It depends on the school tho here.

that makes sense. it's the opposite of america where most people only know english unless they are immigrants or they learned a second language from their parents. they do try to teach you a second language in school but it's not good. maybe japan is like america in that way

To be fair, I'm a native German, learning English since first grade aka since I'm 6, and I'm still sometimes struggling, 19 years later. But I am sure that Temma will succeed in improving his English if he continues his studies

I hope he watches Kiara. She constantly gives a summary of what she is doing or talking about in Japanese - for me as someone learning Japanese it gives a nice chance to try and practice understanding while knowing the context, but it could also work in the opposite way for JP bros - try to understand what she says in english then see how close you are when she explains.

I'm pretty sure in Holostars he will got a top three in english, and his pronounciation is already enough to people understand him. What his (and other japanese peers) lacking is probably just confidences. They always said their english is bad or bla bla bla but in reality, if you already understand what people say in english, and at least can answer english even with small words, its already enough for communication. Their culture really makes their standard was too high ngl. www In Bali - Indonesia every tourist spot, at least people who sell their things know a simple english to sell their goods. It just for functional purpose, and its already enough.
