The comment about most K-pop dances having too many formation changes.. I understand that things having a reason doesn't change how much you like them but.. most K-pop choreos are made for groups so the formation changes when the member singing does, taemin is a solo artist, the choreo doesn't have to draw your attention to someone else so there is fewer formation changes by nature, because he just doesn't need as many

Only Taemin took it off with his mouth. Everyone else used their hands. That satisfaction from throwing the ties was lost in the frame. I also thought it was a real pity.

I love listening to all of your insights, but I think some of the comments are unfair. Taemin goes both harder and softer on the live performances depending on how much effort he has to do on his vocal parts. The dance always suffers in the cinematic versions, especially for a solo artist, but that Stage in particular could have been much better. The Stage for Black Rose instead is *chef kiss* (on that note, pleeeeeease react to Black Rose)

I really appreciate professional dancer's and performer's opinion on artists like Taemin. I find his style refreshing and beautifully complex, but having professionals taking their time to evaluate the technical side of his performances is a perspective I think is necessary for kpop fans like me that want objective opinions on an artist, rather than just reactions to the artist himself based on a fan's opinion. I really enjoyed this, and I look forward to your perspectives on other performances!

I agree about the camera work for a lot of these Kpop videos. I’m not even a dancer but I get so frustrated when the camera is flying around and zooming and missing half of the choreo, particularly with an artist like Taemin who is not only a phenomenal dancer in his own right but also creates some spectacular shapes and textures with his wonderful backup dancers. And like you said, much of that is sacrificed so they can show off some dynamic camerawork that is usually overkill anyway… it is always a huge shame and it is why I will always prefer dance practice videos with the fixed cameras. It is only then that the true artistry of a performance and a choreo can be seen! (Let’s not even talk about the “dance practice” videos that try to “spice” it up with unnecessary camerawork! 🤦♀️) I really appreciated this video and all the reactions from the dancers. Thanks for showing them Taemin’s Criminal! This is definitely one of my favorite choreos from him!

Taemin is called the Kpop King of the industry and the same with his dance line, which is insane, unique and incomparable, all his choreos and performances are another level, Criminal is not just a dance, he has this concept of the syndrome stockholm, which is associated with the lyrics of the song and with how well Taem personifies that ... that's what is special about him when he dances and that choreo won the MAMA awards in his country last year. I suggest you react to "Famous" and "ADVICE" his most recent release.

the point about the cinematic choices changing the whole outlook on the choreo bc of busy camerawork is spot on. even on regular krn music shows u get dizzy watching camera/angles switching constantly. i wish theyd calm down a bit. as for them concentrating on the soloist in the performance..yeah thats a given. and as someone else pointed out, for groups some of the busy camera work is necessary to focus on each members parts in the choreo (reason being soloshots/fancams of each individual member to satisfy fans needs and ofc to show off details of the choreo). usually individual fancams and a group dance version shot gets released for musicshows alongside the version that airs on broadcast in the end - a combination of the two.

sometimes the energy can be a bit iffy cause they have to practice over and over just so they can get the right take. they had probably rehearsed it multiple times before the actual video so i can see why they might not have tons of energy in some of their movements.
@LoveStance3 жыл бұрын
Hi Emeroy, I've looked in on your channel before so recognized your face right away. Hi! The commentary was good, but I think that Taemin's actual SM Town performance video - the original release would have been a much better example for you all to be watching as it reflected the complete elements of their vision. The one you chose was OK, but that was the first time I'd actually seen that particular video. K-pop artists feed off their audience exponentially, and during the pandemic, I've heard many artists discuss that its just not the same energy for them, which makes them feel they are not giving their 100% ( they don't feel the same energy when performing ) - meaning in this instance, I think the music video would have been a much better option. (Not to mention you would have benefit of the subtitles to go along and get a true feeling for all elements of the concept.) Taemin is all about telling the story, vs fancy bells and whistles we see with other groups. One of your commentators mentioned that the transitions in the dance were considerably limited in comparisons to other groups. very true. Again he is all about the story vs the formula that others expect. consider discussing his performance here perhaps.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nne0fWp4iJufqNU I was glad that at least one of you are aware of the K-pop culture and I am pretty sure she was aware of Taemin's work from the past. I could tell she loved what she was seeing and was surprised at some of the comments from the others. With the exception of her, excuse my analogy, but otherwise this commentary felt much like a group of pachyderm judging the dancing concepts of a group of lemmings. (nothing wrong with this... but )There are two separate ideals in place and while one can be objective - often its difficult to understand the difference in perception between the two groups. I would also like to add, there was some discussion regarding how much popping should be seen, but sometimes the restraint of a movement tells a much bigger story. Cheers! I have subscribed and look forward to watching other review in the future. :)

I like your point of view regarding him taking this as an opportunity as a reprieve from work. That would be nice if he sees it that way. I am sure he will learn a lot while he is away. Something tells me his art is very close to his heart and he works so hard to express it because for him - it just needs to be said. To not express it would be painful for him. Yes because it's all about him only, the back up dancers here are just spice of the performance. And he is singing and just accompanied by dancing. Taemin is a singer (and a dancer) so the camera has to focus to him all the time. But if you want to see his entire crew backing on him, there are some live fancams available. It could have been better if we address Taemin as 'him' and not 'they' coz he is a singular person here. Overall I liked this kind of reaction concept and it's ok to say your honest reaction since you guys are legit performers and dancers as well so it's acceptable if there are some good or bad critic in a good way.

I love to hear different opinions and perspectives on his dancing style and techniques. c'mon upload it on YT. also please reconsider on choosing the live performances. artists when they perform live, especially taemin, not just have to focus on dancing and the choreo, but the concept, story-telling, emotions, facial expressions and a whole lot of stuff. plus the costumes also affects and limits the movements. for this particular performance, i can see how he was lacking the energy that he usually receives from the live crowd. he has expressed how it's so draining to perform without the live audience. also, how can one person not love that zombie style dancing in that section? it adds flavor to the choreo and the concept imo. anyways, nice analysis! waiting for more taemin content ❤

Advice is more powerful!
@Lena-zn4re3 жыл бұрын
Well, advice is more hip hop based, which means the song itself does go harder in comparison. So it does make sense that the choreography would follow suit. However, Criminal is very different in terms of genre and style. If I had to compare it to his other works, Criminal is more similar to Move and Want rather than Advice. The way Taemin dances in Criminal is very fluid and elegant, yet goes hard at the same time with all the isolations. So I don’t think that’s a fair comparison, because they’re two completely different releases. Taemin tried something completely new with Advice. Not to say that Advice doesn’t go hard as fuck, because it does. The footwork in the chorus alone can carry the entire Kpop dance industry.

@@oniichxnn But powerful doesn’t equal aggressive. You can be both powerful and elegant/fluid at the same time, which is how Taemin dances. It’s all I’m saying.
