My longhair chihuahua that I bought from a breeder is the most mellow temperament. He is not nappy or untrained. He is the most loyal, calm and over all great dog. Now my rescue is another story. But because of my rescue made me learn to love the longhair Chihuahua breed. So I had to buy my boy. I will definitely be buying my next dog from a great breeder 💖

FL State Fair! So many good memories for me from when I lived in Tampa! I began in dog events in showmanship in 4H and was so grateful that was even offered now knowing that way back then, it wasn’t common in most states. I’m always telling people who think all Chihuahuas are some nasty little breed that they haven’t met a well bred, well socialized one. Similar sort of thing for numerous other tiny breeds as well, but wow.. what a reputation Chihuahuas have (undeservingly) earned! Very important to expose people to what they should really be like. Good temperament being something to be considered when breeding is one reason that led me to the breeder of my Mini American Shepherd. It was something I needed when seeking my next dog. I am so grateful for reputable breeders!

Yes you are so very fortunate to have been a part of it. I know many kids that started in 4H and are very successful in so many things now! Where do you live now? I love going to the fair every year! Big part of the spring for me. And thank you so much for being a champion of the this breed! You’re absolutely correct! A well socialized properly bread Chihuahua is absolutely amazing. And most definitely socialization is the key to any breed but especially a small breed.

Such good points about putting them down & allowing them to walk. Great video. May we be able to safely socialize again. 💕

Thank you!!! YES!!! They are dogs!!! They belong on the ground. Giving them a complete false sense of reality is not doing anyone any favors! Fingers, toes and eyes crossed we can get out there again :😉

Thanks for sharing 😊 I have a smooth coat senior chihuahua. He is a rescue, he is a very chilled dog but I see what your saying about how humans cause thier temperament. Since adopting a chihuahua, I love this breed now

Thank you for an excellent vlog! Temperament is so important! I have put an Temperament Title on one of my greyhounds. What a proud moment! The testers were surprised when he calmly walked in front of me to protect me from the" bad guy." Currently, I have a Chihuahua Smooth coat mix who is almost 3 years old. (love the purebreds!) He has his Puppy S.T.A.R., and his advanced CGC. He doesn't know anything about being carried for any distance! 😄 I hope to begin showing him in obedience early next year. 🐕

Thank you thank you thank you! Yes temperament is beyond important! And I’m so happy to find others that feel the same way. I can’t imagine how proud you were because greyhounds are somewhat aloof. I own whippet so I get it.! Thank you so much for reaching out and for doing such fabulous things with your dogs. They truly are amazing Creatures. If you lived close I would love to film you

Dogs are happier on the ground anyway, because it gives them the freedom to move and explore for themselves. My dog likes being held, but not when there's anything fun or interesting happening around us, lol

Hello!! I have 3 chihuahuas: Bonnie, Napoleon and the 6 months old Mezcal. Bonnie is nice but Napoleon has a great temperament a chihuahua could ever had, he loves to be petted by everyone . Mezcal was born on pandemic so he hasn't been able to socialize with other people but he likes to play with my great dane. I don't want him to be agressive with people, a good friend, who has fobia to dogs, came to my house and he behaved horribly. Is there anything else that I can do?
@BestInShowBitch4 жыл бұрын
Yes unfortunately coronageddon babies miss out on some great opportunities but there is still hope! My first suggestion would be to take him to Home Depot. Walk him through the store on a lead and a bag full of bait. Don’t pick him up! Let him walk on the lead. You can have strangers offer him bait. How did he behave with your friend?

My cousin and his wife have a toy poodle that they carry everywhere. When he’s with them, he’s a menace, and bites. They fake him as a service dog, and his anxiety gets worse when he’s trapped in a restaurant. But when he’s with his “grandma” he’s treated like a dog and really HATED it at first but has started to adjust. My theory is that when he’s on the ground, he can get away from whatever it is scaring him. When they carry the dogs like accessories, the dogs don’t have a choice. So, they retaliate, and get praised in return. When they’re allowed to be dogs on the floor, they realize they have a choice to either engage with the scary thing, or back off to watch it from afar until they DECIDE to investigate. It’s also why I hate people who FORCE their fearful dogs to be pet by strangers by pulling them by the collar or harness towards the person. Let them decide if, how, and when they want to interact with the world around them.

Elizabeth Martinez exactly!!!!! You are 100% correct!! When a dog is properly socialized, especially as a puppy, It can make confident APPROPRIATE decisions. 😊

My Chihuahua is so shy. She hides behind me when anyone wants to touch her. She will not bark or growl at any one. I do have her down. She goes to places with me as much as possible. I do take her to All family events where she she's the same people of different size and ages reagularly. But she will not let any one pet her. Like I side she runs behind or in between my feet for safety. How do I help her be ok with being pet?
@BestInShowBitch4 жыл бұрын
My biggest piece of advice is BREATH! She can sense your anxiety. Every once of it. So take a deep breath and then... ignore her! Don’t look at her... watch her but don’t look at her. If that makes sense? She watching for your response. Mix the two and she’s going to hide and show fear. Take her to Home Depot with a pocket full of treats. Ask strangers to offer her treats. Don’t look at her!!! And BREATH 😉

@@BestInShowBitch Thank you the tip. She is my companion to help with my anxiety I get when I go out in public. But I would like her to be comfortable around people. At least she doesn't bark or snap at people. So that's good 😅
