Temperature Gauge Going Up And Down Randomly Fixed - ECT Sensor Wire Harness - Toyota Corolla

In this video we take a look at why the temperature gauge in my 2006 Toyota Corolla is sporadically bouncing all over the place and going up and down quickly. We were also having acceleration issues with the car jerking when I stepped on the gas pedal and let off of it, and the ac stopped working and was blowing warm air! The most likely issue is the ECT sensor ( Coolant Temperature Sensor or Water Temperature Sensor) or the wire harness connected to it. Other causes of temp. gauge issues could be the thermostat, water pump, or something else to do with the coolant system. In this case it is the wire harness and I make the repair.

Thank you for sharing, I have the same car. It's the engine cover that's vibrating and shearing that harness. I made the discovery this morning. What is the part number for that harness?

I love the vid but calling the engine cover a valve cover is super misleading to those whom aren't mechanically inclined. The valve cover is the bulky metal piece that your spark plugs go thru, coil packs are on top of, etc. I know what you meant with what you said, but to be clear.....YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE VALVE COVER FOR THIS JOB.

That throttle body looks dirty and looks like it has oil in it. If you feel a loss of power soon or stall at idle on the breaks take that off and clean it out the black around the edge will cut the air flow down at idle and give you a rough start. Same issue haunted my legacy gt until I found it. No codes no cel. Just an fyi.

Just wondering man. If your sensor is giving wrong reading but your car engine isn’t hot. Can the engine turn off because it thinks your car of overheating?

Hi thanks for watching! If the temp gauge is saying your car is overheating I would believe it. There is too much damage that can occur to your car if overheating and trying to drive it. If it were me I would want to get to the bottom of it right away. Overheating can be caused by so many different things unfortunately. Good luck and hope you get your car fixed!
