A rod with material constant E = 2 x 10 5 MPa and length 1 m is fixed at one end and free at the other (cantilever beam). It is heated at the free end and allowed to elongate freely by 1 mm. Calculate the stress developed in the rod.

Sir please find the answer for this question Rails are laid with their adjacent ends 3mm apart when the temperature is 30c . The length of each rail is 10 m. E=200 GPA . Temp at which adjacent end will contact Alpha is 10×10^-6c

Temperature can cause expansion so you have to account for it.

Bcoz of increase in heat there is an expansion in rod and that's is change in length you got it now?
