i'd love to see you re-visit the Tempest with the latest OS. It's a very different machine now but still has a little ways to go.

@thewakz I spoke with Roger on this and he said there might be a software editor, but its not something they do, all the DSI editor software is made by a 3rd party. But the compressor did sound good, though I guess it would have been nice to have access to the discrete parameters. With the separate outs, you can process to taste however

To those wanting a sampling function....... get an MPC. This is about having a powerful, performance-orientated analog/digital drum machine, which also works as a polyphonic synth.
@leonma20006 жыл бұрын
For more then 1800,- a sampling function should be available. They praise it as a "Live-Machine". And its definily not really one. Not for this Price. So ist just a complement but not an intuituve alone Standing Instrument for Live Gigs. For Studio its something else. But For this Price i can buy thousands of samples for my DAW

@TundrahSounds6 жыл бұрын
Ma Ko almost the same, is an exaggeration imo. 6 voice polyphonic synthesiser with two analog osc per voice, plus two digital and a sub per voice. 5 osc per voice. It has prophet 08 like sound capabilities, that can do stuff that the prophet can’t, and of course many ways it lacks some of what the prophet can do. But still, that’s just some of its strengths. The Nord Drum is no Prophet. The Tempest also have the fx sliders, 16 pads, multiple tweaking possibilities that can create awesome variations in a live and recording session. The 6 outputs also lets you put an effect to each voice with effect pedals, or you can put it through a mixer, and use aux sends for reverb, delays or wherever. Send the kick through the main out, and compress the hell out of it with the built in compressor.

As a Tempest owner I'm in love with this box and think its worth every penny if it's your kinda thing. Not everyone needs analog but I think the sound (in person) is great and characterful while the interface is fun and inspiring. Like he says, you do need some skill in percussion programming to really appreciate this beast's beats.

very good review Nick, i love analog and this drum machine looks and sounds great. Much better user interface than using a mouse. Def a product for the serious musician, producer that wants to get creative with both hands and search and experiment for fresh sounds.

@bibibibibiotip Yes. Each step has several editable parameters plus routing of things like velocity and the fx ribbons (which are recordable) to whatever parameter you like.

Object of lust. I love the idea of having a poly analogue synth and a drum machine in one instrument with the flexibility and tweakability in the OS. I will wait until there have been a few OS upgrades and I would ideally want a software editor as well.

I apparently do not end up with $2000 dollars spending money. I wanted a prophet8 as well and here I am with a tetra. Did you see any sensible spots to chop that thing in half?
@dinogoldie97168 жыл бұрын
This looks/sounds amazing. Has it now been discontinued? Was there ever a baby/LE version? I'm looking for a one-box alternative to the 1st 3 Korg Volcas with a 4-bar sequencer. Any suggestions?

This is Really Amazing, Mr Batt! Nice Review, As Always! I'd Love to Own one... But How Many Synth Sounds does it have? Can We Say that this is a TETRA with Pads? It Doesn't look like it has a sequencer or an Arpegiattor... It Might Be a Stupid Question, considering that this is a Different kind of Instrument, I Know It's Not a Synth... But it has Synth Sounds... Can We Play some Voices with a Controller,(like a Pad or a Bass) without having that Sound loaded in a Pad? Greetings From Portugal

Its a pitty it doesn't have daw integration. Would love to create the patterns in tempest and be able to trigger different ones from the daw. Any ideas if this will be implemented? If it has midi ins/outs its surely just a question of os right? Can't decide between the elektron & tempest. So far elektron is upfront due to this daw conjuction.
@658magnus13 жыл бұрын
Hi there would I be able to simply hook a midi keyboard to the Tempest and just use it as an ordinary 6 voice analog synthesizer, or is there something else to it?

honestly the velocity pads and the usb make it worth the upgrade for me (had an esx). it's personal preference. you care about analog v digital or pads v tweeking samples? i think that's what it comes down to

Sooo sexy! I really like the live playable mindset behind much of the design - lots of useful stuff in there. I'm also a huge fan of the Evolver for its inspired synth-engine, so this is an interesting evolution of that idea. I cant help being impressed with the complexity achieveable with "only" 6 voices - depending on your style, you could actually produce entire tracks on just that 1 box it seems. Thank you for another great review! ^^ now to win the lottery...

If it wasn't a grand i would totally buy it. Not to bitch about prices or anything of course when you buy this you know you are getting the best you can get when it comes to drums with roger linn involved. I can see them making a light version in the near future cause dave smith's desktop synths are usually reasonably priced and the price on this cuts out a huge part of the market.

Some Aussie Guy addictive drums can’t be used as a six voice analog synthesiser though. With this machine I can create fat basslines, leads, pads, retro futuristic synth wave ready sounds, 808s sounds designed from scratch, 5 osc sounds if using the digital and sub osc as well, mod paths with 8 extra internal routings after the standard envelope settings are set. Sorry for my bad English btw. Not my language.
