Tempest-Hustler Carnival Ride

The Hustler and Tempest, both made by Watkins, are two similar rides with virtually the same components; they both have a large boom that is connected to two smaller booms on either end. Attached to the ends of the smaller booms are large spinning pods that can hold about 8 people. The only real difference is that the Hustler is on a flat plane while the Tempest is titled on a slight angle.

Both of these rides are basically stylized Teacup rides. However the pods are much larger than a normal teacup car and the pods on these rides are very tough to stop spinning; actually, you can’t stop them since there is no wheel in the center of the pod that you can turn.

What a classic! I remember as a kid my Church carnival had this ride and it was so much fun . The Hustlers I rode was a lot faster.

this is the hustler. the guy on the video is right though the tempest did have a roof and was more tilted

Looks like this is the "W Z" . The Hustler had banjo lights that spelled out HUSTLER. Themes change all the time like with the Himalaya/Music Express. But I never heard of the WZ!

Not a Tempest. This is a Hustler. The Tempest was angled and has different gondolas. Both were built by Watkins.

your gonna have to put some effort into stopping the spinning wheel if you want to make everyone motion sickness. its hyper kids like myself was that make this one pop. people would just give me a ticket to make sure i was on their gondola. actually getting a "hey!" and a scold look from the operator as i pushed the envelope. grab the wheel like a bull (wheen it spins) and dont let go
