The interviewer couldn't even pass this brother some water to drink? Still he tells a GREAT story of the origin days of hip-hop. Regardless if him being near dehydrated. Again, I've noticed they fail to acknowledge late "DJ Mario" for the origins of spinning records in the Bronx during the 70's. His contribution is vital important for a better understanding. If the later pioneers of hip-hop want their propers, then also they should give propers to the very beginning of it all. That's probably one of the reasons why the newer rap artists don't respect them. Tell the whole truth, and not just half truths. "Do it right or don't do it at all." Can't build anything without the foundation (founding forefathers.) The story of "DJ Mario" and the "Black Spades" should be told, IF you want to know the true birth of hip hop culture.

Flash was known for being the fastest DJ spining back...but Theodore was very creative...he was doing things on one turntable that it took the other djs two turntable to do...he just never got the credit for it, and I think it was because he seem to be a humble person and wasn't looking for the the big spot light...he seem like he really love playing his music and being different...

7:30 The 1st generation of hip hop took HIP HOP to another level? No, it took MUSIC to another level. It elevated disadvantaged COMMUNITIES to a whole new level. It brought people together and focused on good things in life. Give these artists the respect they deserve.

@stepasaur. Flash was known for beat juggling so to speak where he would cut the records back and forth and this is what GWT admired about him and he started practicing what he saw flash doing and it was while he was doing that the birth of the scratch came to life and from there history was made. If you watch the video again you'll grasp it as he even said no other dj's were advanced as the two of them were back in the day.

My point is that to do spinbacks you're gonna scratch (even if only babyscratch) a record to get a smooth seamless drop, are we saying that Flash was a regarded dj before scratching came along, if so then confusion over

@dadjmixesit the point of my confusion was that Flash was known for his elaboration on Theodores discovery so if GWT was just coming up then what exactly was so special about Flashes act at that point in time that Theo would revere him enough to be his crateboy? if he had spinbacks already then surely he must already have 'the scratch' as its rhythm is already present in the cueing, but maybe not, thanks for talking to me all the way down here anyways, we don't get much light down here

The actual point of your confusion is to think that Grandmaster Flash was known just for his elaboration on the scratch. Let us not forget that Flash invented the cross-fade too!

it's crazy you think of motown music and how beautiful it was, and early hip-hop and how fun-loving it was, but those singers and MC's were from EXTREMELY tough backgrounds. All the legends from the 50's and 60's really had it rough with racism etc, and then the hip hop pioneers had it rough with the ghettos, and because they really lived it they needed a break from all that by making good music. Today's spoiled brats begging for "safe spaces"

We need to take hip hop back, how do we do this? by not giving in to the music industry, by not listening to the Radio, by not buying music that talk about, drugs, bitches, drinks, your diamonds ect. we need to do feel good music, nah mean. Mos Def, Talib Kwali, R.I.P Jay Dilla, surreal and the sound providers, ect, ya know my drift. Onelove, lets do this the right way

Real rap fans still in the underground though. Where guys like Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap never left. I Remember Bobbito on Columbia University radio birthing the underground culture as we know it today. I remember BDK and KGR on the soundbombing, lyricist lounge, eastern conference, soul assassin mixtapes etc. They would be in ciphers. They might just be at the show as fans. This was following in the tradition Marley Marl and Run DMC always laid forth. I remember coming out of an underground rap show at Irving Plaza and a kid walking up to me passing me a VIP pass to a Big Daddy Kane after party. Ralph McDaniels has me on film at an underground show 5 years ago Hip hop never left man. KGR has advanced his lyrical skills so much over the years he's still one of the best to this day. He's the GOAT for underground fans. The fans are who left hip hop. In my opinion they became too racist for hip-hop. The underground culture was first because of the wannabe gangsters totally taken over the whole industry in the late 90s leaving room for nothing else commercially. Hip-hop is and always was and always will be a concept of universal culture just like salsa in the 60s and discos in the 70s.

@dbbification i went to see Afrika bambaataa a few months ago , i was so blessed to be able to be in the same room as him, BUT he was mixing with cd's n lap tops n all sorts of computer related stuff..... i wanted him to be on the 1z n 2z...... i guess times have changed.... makes me SAD!

@STEPASAUR ok lets recap here now so the lightbulb will eventually get brighter. I can see how you would be confused, the word crateboy should give you a clue as to what flash was doing hence his need for theodore to be a crateboy. wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, the hamster on the wheel is speeding up now, did ya get it now?

Hip hop exist in the underground now. Guys like Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap, Ralph McDaniels. They are really about the culture and they were always around in the underground scenes even in the late 90s and early 2000s. On the mixtapes in the ciphers and in the crowds as fans. Supporting. Ralph McDaniels even has me on film st the Killer Mike and El-P record release show. The problem with the industry and its fans is they are very racist. No one wants to admit that the concept of Hip Hop is not even about music it's about a universal culture just like salsa and disco were. That's why most of these same people are against the museum. Back in the days guys like Marley Marl and Run DMC were not like this. That's why BDK and KGR always follow that tradition in the underground scene, that bobbito Garcia birthed at Columbia University, always had guys like them as supportive idols even from the Shadows. This guy might have started scratching but it's on a whole nother level now. I wonder if he even watches the dmc championships.

@LG1674 Respect We need to get turntableism back. without cd players, laptops, bpm counters, sinconisation tools and that shit. In te past DJ-s and producers were music inovators. They were bringing new sounds. Today the kids want chip shit and they give them that shit.
