Tempting Myself to Blow My Budget | Nursery Gets Rare and Uncommon!

In this video, I take you to Glendora to go plant shopping! I'm always so excited when a local nursery starts to carry more rare and uncommon plants that collectors are after and of course I look when I'm trying to be GOOD and frugal. Let's see if I stick with my plans of frugality or do I throw caution to the wind and go on a shopping spree? I loved everything from the common houseplants to the uncommon as well as their outdoor fruit trees and cacti & succulents! This place is worth the drive and worth checking out, in my humble opinion!

Wonderful plant nursery Patrick! 😌🤲💖I'm glad you bought that Echinopsis😉👌🌟That looks like a winner! I'd repot it into a teracotta pot with lava-rock, pumice, chicken grit or crushed granite😉And mix in only a portion of potting soil for seedlings🙏💖That'll make your echinopsis happy

Enjoyed your video but then I always do very nice nursery was surprised no begonias or caletheas but they did have some very nice plants after you get your outside garden completed I hope you will film it thanks again for taking us along

32:50 it looks like sun stress. I have a ferocactus like that which turns lighter and almost red in July and August due to the heat

Hi Patrick! That's a really nice nursery. I was a little surprised at the cost on some of the plants that only had a couple of good leaves and some that were cut. I'm glad you got the cactus. This place looks awesome!! just out of curiosity - are dieffenbachias considerably MORE toxic than any other aroid? I mean, considering their relatives, philo./pothos/rhaphi./syngo./anthurium/spath./etc.? Similarly: is oleander the MOST toxic dogbane, as opposed to its cousins plumeria/hoya/jasmine/milkweed/stapelia/pachypodium?? oh, and don't forgot vinca, stephanotis, and mandevilla vines. all hoya relatives!! my mind was blown when reading this. lmao. all containing a white sap, but different from a euphorbia sap. It does make sense, if you look at a peduncle of hoya blossoms, next to jasmine flowers, or a milkweed in bloom. Even stapelia+carrion flowers have a unique "hoya-esque" shape. lol idk...definitely don't eat undercooked taro (colocasia esculenta) leaves. Those calcium oxalate crystals are like you swallowed sand for 24 hrs. I know from experience. I love the Indian appetizer of patra, but one time I made it too quickly and paid for it! It's basically like Swiss rolls, but savory chickpea filling, cilantro, rolled with well-cooked taro leaf. But I was just curious if you had any clue :-) thanks!!

Hi Erik! I would think it is more toxic just from how unpleasant it sounds to ingest a deiffenbachia! Very interesting! But it totally makes sense! I can totally see the resemblance in flower with Hoyas! Thanks for sharing that interesting tidbit! 🙌🏽

What a great nursery! I've never been there and had never heard of it before now! Loved that Colocasia "living its' best life" haha. It certainly did look that way. I loved the ruby ficus and the variegated Hoya in the cabinet. I loved that little banana tree too, I had one of those once, pretty sure it's a dwarf Cavendish of some kind. I loved mine but it got sunburned too much. I feel terrible now! They go very dormant in the winter. I also loved that outdoor philodendron. Is that called Tree Philodendron? You mentioned you have an outdoor Hoya garden. What kind of sun do you keep them in......... do you have them outside because they need more light than what you have inside? I really like your videos, super relaxing! And I love how much you love all the plants and also that you appreciate the common ones along with the rare ones. Tally ho.

Hi Marjorie! Thanks for all those kind words!!! Don’t feel too bad about your banana! They were gorgeous though weren’t they? I was disappointed to see the variegation disappearing as the tree matures. Oh! The philodendron selloum? Aka/reclassified to a thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum (mouthful!)… my Hoyas outside are under shade 90% of the day if not 100% but it’s southern exposure so it’s very very bright indirect light! 💚
