Solid picks Rich, getting me wanting to dig in my shelves, been a minute since I've listened to the Jefferson Airplane and Love albums. Simon & Garfunkel too, kind of surprised to chose them, guess their hits got played so much over the years that I tend to overlook them these days. Still never heard any of the 13th Floor Elevators albums though I do have some kind of live album of theirs. Which didn't impress me too much to be honest. Looking forward to your 1967 episode for sure, cheers!

You are almost correct about Otis Redding. It was his last solo studio album. The following year, Otis' last year on this planet, he released a magnificent duet album with label contemporary Carla Thomas called King And Queen, and then a solo live album Live In Europe. After his death, his Stax label issued two more albums by Otis, Dock Of The Bay, and Immortal, both containing tracks from his final 1967 studio sessions. But I agree that 1966 was his most creative year, releasing his two best albums, The Soul Album, and Dictionary Of Soul. But there was a lot to be said for his 1964 album Otis Redding Sings Soul Ballads. He never heard the complete recording of Dock Of The Bay, because the sound effects and backing lead guitar were not added to his basic otherwise undubbed track until just after his passing in that unfortunate crash. The undubbed recording plus an earlier take appeared in his Remember Me CD with other magnificent previously unreleased tracks of his.

My first Otis purchase was a 4 CD boxset. I was blown away. At the time I was no longer buying records. My next purchase was a great DVD. When I started buying records again, 8 years ago, I started looking for his records. I think I have four. I’ve heard King and Queen and don’t care for it as much as his solo albums. Thanks for the great comment.
@paulgoldstein2569 Жыл бұрын
@@vinylrichie007 I virtually stopped buying vinyl as soon as CDs came out, because I could not afford all these great albums when they first came out during the sixties. But all these CD reissues have bonus tracks, sometimes expanded into double CDs, like with the albums by The Who, and so many others, so I enjoy them more, sometimes making the vinyls obsolete. For example, I enjoy the double CD reissue of Donovan's original 1966 U.S. version of his Sunshine Superman album.

1966! I was 15!! Such a great year for music. I still have my original copies of the Simon and Garfunkel LP and The Byrds Fifth Dimension (Mono). The Byrds LP still plays beautifully. As for Love, what they did with My Little Red Book was amazing. I always wondered what Burt Bacharach thought when he heard it! And Jefferson Airplane Takes Off is still one of my all time favorites. Their version of Tobacco Road is so beautiful and sad. This LP showcased the genius of Marty Balin more than any other JA record. And Signe Toly Anderson had a terrific voice. I think they could have completely left out the electric jug sound on the 13th Floor Elevators LP. It adds nothing to the music.

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds 7. The Kinks - Face to Face 8. 13th Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds of… 9. Simon & Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence 10. The Rolling Stones - Aftermath Love to all. 👍❤️

Great selection and video Richie. No complaints with Face To Face, superb Kinks album and definitely one of my favourites.I bet Jimmy Page smirked when he heard Session Man. A Quick One ( UK title) is pretty decent, the title track was a precursor to greater things on Who Sell Out ( my favourite). I love The Sounds of Silence, but equally like Paul Simon Songbook ..Richard Cory was a great song. Blonde on Blonde is amazing.. Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again is probably my favourite or Positively 4th Street..love the acoustic motif on that one. 5th Dimension is a great Byrds album.I come and Stand at Every Door is about the children that died in Hiroshima, very haunting and poignant as you said. I think.i.prefer Easter Everywhere as opposed to the debut for 13th floor Elevators..that jug is crazy! . I actually prefer Rubber Soul to Revolver and agree that the song sequencing doesn't work well. I think by this stage they were trying out so many ideas and styles that it all got a bit too convoluted and confused and then Pepper crystallised everything. I like Jefferson Airplane but only have Volunteers and Worst of Comp.

Great video man , but feel something about Paul when you talk about him , one foot on Beatle mania ??, with Eleanor Rigby , here there and everywhere which is one of Lennon’s favorite Paul”s songs , good day sunshine !!! , that trumpet at for no one !!! Man is just they started to make differences , by the way who never stoped at London at 66/67 after they all went to vacations and got into the concept of Sgt Peppers? It’s Paul’s whole idea and that flows , who sings oh darling , Helter skelter, I’ve got a felling the man of a thousand voices , man it’s the only group at the time with all singing in the band , and as a musician I consider much complete Paul although don’t get me wrong , I know Lennon and George are amazing , and yes Ringo is a perfect drummer for singers , artist nowadays contact a sesión drummer to do what Ringo does , to play for the singer at perfect time , fills at the right moment , one thing , when you do your 67 top , remember they did the version as it was supposed to be at 50th anniversary: With strawberry fields forever and penny lane into the Sgt peppers album . The big mistake and decision of George Martin , I’ve seen videos of him saying that and I agree , but in the end strawberry and P . Lane , made as for me the greatest 45 rpm of all time .

Great choices as usual! Strange how the word "trips" had to be censored and "let me in, you know where" had to be changed from the Jefferson Airplane album considering they were allowed to say "motherfucker" just 2 years later on the same label. I also forgot about Skip Spence being in JA before the Grape!Didnt all 60’s songs have drug references? LOL! Yeah whoever wrote Tobacco Road is banking almost as much as whoever wrote Gloria and Stepping Stone Haha! Seems like everyone and their mother covered those tunes! I have that Love album and am currently seeking out De Capo One of the only artists I remember my parents listening to was Simon and Garfunkel otherwise I had to find my own way musically. I never really liked Bob Dylan until I bought this ladies collection and Blonde on Blonde was in it I spun it and then I really started to get Dylan! 13th Floor Elevators are excellent! That Byrds album is the only Byrds album I don’t have that I’m interested in having There’s only 4 of their records that I like. That Otis album is one that has great music and a horrible cover! And you forgot to brag about your S&G record still having the shrink wrap.
