So glad you did this one. Ten is my ultimate bias in NCT and WayV is my favorite sub unit. Fun fact: Ten was actually born in Bangkok, Thailand yet works out of South Korea and China. WayV just released their new comeback Phantom. The concept is Phantom of the Opera. Don’t feel bad Erin, you aren’t alone in your reaction.

Surprise surprise Ten was involved in the styling for this mv like he was for Paint Me naked and he actually received this song the same time he did PMN but he said he wasn't feeling it at that time so he focused more on PMN which was something different for him because as you know NCT and especially WayV be making some hoe anthems 😂 so PMN was different but it was also who Ten felt like at that time well this young man felt like he was ready to put that sauce on Birthday and he did and he again got asked to be hands on with the styling as well as the set up for the mv and he delivered because Ten is art and he makes art out of anything he touches so here we have it. Man I'm only watching reactions to this with a few people because between crying over Jin's solo song and crying for a different reason over Ten I am tired 😂. Great reaction as always 💜.

Ten is a member of WayV, NCT's Chinese sub-unit, and he was a dance mentor and judge on a Chinese dance competition show Great Dance Crew for several months in China, which is where "Birthday" and a short version of this dance was first performed a little more than 7 months ago. This dance also was, at least in part, choreographed by him. Ten is often the one that creates or modifies the most memorable and dynamic parts of NCT/WayV's dances that he is a part of. Therefore, it wouldn't surprise me if it was Ten who came up with or modified that tightrope jump move to create what you see in the MV. Most choreographers say they present Ten with choreography and then he changes it and makes it even better. He is a very skilled choreographer as well, which he has shown off in several self-choreographed performances on NCT's KZbin channels and as a member of SuperM, etc. (SuperM is literally a group of the best dancers, singers, rappers and performers from SM's most popular boy groups. Which I think explains a little of Ten's skill level.) Now you need to check out Ten's dance practice video for "Birthday." And, if you check out Ten's 'Birthday' dance practice behind the scenes video, his behind the scenes of his MV shoot and the behind the scenes of recording the song, you can see just how involved he was with this whole project. This will give you insight into just how respected and talented he really is. All of Ten's solo songs -- "Dream in a Dream," "New Heroes," "Paint Me Naked" and "Birthday" -- are in English because Ten is fluent in English. He grew up attending an international school in Thailand run by British educators, so he spoke English in school. He is native Thai, however, he is fluent in at least 4 languages -- Thai, English, Korean and Mandarin, and he is currently learning Japanese. Because Ten is a member of WayV, this is one of the reasons why his songs are in English. Due to all the political issues between China and Korea, by producing songs in English, among other things, this helps him avoid any conflict with the Chinese government or being seen as a Korean idol, if and when WayV is ever able to get back to promoting in China. Right now, Korean companies are not allowed to do business in China and any mainland Chinese citizens are restricted from doing business with or working in Korea, which is why WayV has to maintain a separate presence even though they are part of NCT. Plus, English is one of the languages he is most comfortable in and it helps him connect with a wider international audience, etc. Ten first debuted as an original member of NCT-U in 2016 with their "The 7th Sense" MV, as a main dancer and a rapper, but by virtue of the fact that he is an SM Entertainment artist, it shouldn't be a surprise that he is also an outstanding vocalist. LOL. That's just what SM artists are known for. That's why SM is the vocal powerhouse of the industry because everyone under SM has superior singing abilities. Ten is the NCT member with the most solo projects because he is one of SM's and the industry's top dancers and he is an amazing singer and performer, so SM likes to showcase all his impressive skills. Ten is one of the most talented and skilled artists in Kpop. And yet, not enough people pay attention to him. SM Station songs are special songs that are released by SM artists or collaboration songs that are done outside of the members group, etc. Solo performances that aren't associated with a member's group or are just special songs are often Station songs. Hence, why all of Ten's solo releases are Station songs, and not really part of NCT, even though I think some of the MVs still are connected to SM's SM Culture Universe storyline. :D NCT Lab is a special project that was started at the beginning of last year that allows NCT members to release special songs that highlight their individual skills and the members get a chance to put their own ideas and style into the project.

Taemin likes to say that Ten is a very fluid dancer with his own colour but who hits every beat hard. Ten has a background in b boying, popping, hip hop, locking but he's done and mastered loads of dance styles and genres over the years and he's mastered them really well. He's truly a dancer dancer. He also debuted as a rapper but is now an amazing vocalist as well.

The best short run-down is that NCT has 23 members (currently, but are planning to add more). It sounds overwhelming, but most of the time they operate within their own subunits and promote as those groups, so if you were to go subunit by subunit it'd be just like getting into any other KPop group. The main subunits are: "NCT 127" (9 members) "NCT Dream" (7 members) "WayV" (7 members)* which work as any normal K-Pop group does (but WayV primarily sings in Chinese because they're a Chinese subunit, the only reason they don't have NCT in their name because of political reasons). The part where they're different is there's a 4th subunit called "NCT U". Through this unit, on ocassion the members come together and make whole group songs/albums. We get a bunch of cool combinations and 'collabs' between members who aren't in the same subunit usually, it's decided based on who fits the concept/song best out of all 23 members. All of them are a part of "NCT U" because they've all been on an NCT U song at least once. Since you mentioned them specifically: both Ten and Lucas are a part of WayV. However, Lucas is currently on an indefinite hiatus for reasons I won't get into because it's a sensitive topic and also one that splits the fandom. *You've probably noticed that the number of members in brackets doesn't add up to 23. That's for a number of reasons: - at the moment, 2 members don't have a subunit and have only debuted through "NCT U" - 2 members are a part of both NCT 127 and NCT Dream - they're called Haechan and Mark (Mark is also in SuperM!)
