The unit on the window of the show car was an air conditioner. Swamp cooler type. We had one on a 58 Dodge we purchased while crossing the Mojave desert in California. It had a cord inside you would pull to rotate the cylindrical pad in the water reservoir and it was basically forced air fed as you drove down the road. It was my job to fill it with water each time we stopped for gas. Worked pretty good out on the desert with almost no humidity. Blew really cold air and made the car fairly comfortable.

Love truck number 10. I was at the gas station today and a 55 Chevy pickup show truck park next to me. It was beautiful but I prefer the trucks from the 30s and 40s. Looks like a window ac unit we had one in a 53 mercury even had a heave cavas bag filled with water that hung in front of the radiator, didn’t have ac . Driving to Texas from the SF Bay Area in the 50’s with a family of 5 , was no joke

@@Americanrodshop Yes it would be, All it really needs is a paint job, the bumpers don't even look like they are rusty. I would clean it up, replace what needs replaced, do a rattle can rebuild on the engine and engine bay, pull the vinyl top off and paint the roof black, repaint the body, throw some affordable custom wheels on it, because I'm not a fan of them and your going to spend as much restoring them as you would just buying a cheap set of American Racing wheels and drive it. That's what I like about the Smog/Malaise Era Muscle Cars, they are usually in pretty decent shape and your spending 10-15k to put it back on the road.

Another great mix, Solon ! That Pinto custom is really wild and a great price, bet it's more fun than the proverbial barrel of monkeys. I'd probably want to get a hood scoop fabricated to cover the air filter as I live way out here on Canada's Wet Coast. In 1964, I'd have regarded the Chrysler Newport as a 'Grandpa' car, but now that I am one, I can picture myself rolling up to the local cruise-in with it. And oh yeah, love that '56 Dodge Highway Patrol cruiser too !

I live in Tracy which is 13 miles from Manteca! I've seen that Pinto Wagon before and should've asked him how did he get it registered??? Only 1975 and earlier doesn't need smog equipment in California. 🤔 😉 🤔

That pinto wagon was nice! Flashbacks to a better day for cars. That would be every bit worth $7000 in just fun to drive! The 58 panel was also a great value! Did the original bat mobile have front fenders from a 62 skylark cause those looked familiar? The 55 Chevy is going to be hard to beat but the Pinto might give it a run. The 62 T-bird was a great value and interesting for the nostalgia having had a 63 as a teen in the 70s. The Studebaker truck was nice. If only the 64 Newport was a hemi car. Again, the tri-5 (55 Chevy) was favorite of the show but man that Pinto wagon has me ready to go get it, lol

That's a NO, on the Comet for the first two years of production the only name on the car was Comet it was left over from the Edsel division, but Edsel was out, and it was sold by Mercury by 1962 however it became a Mercury Comet.
