Hi Enjoyed your video i just wanted to point out something you said when you were driving around some dried bed lakes whatever you chose to call them Anyway you said there is nothing to winch off if you get stuck and i have herd many people say that BUT i would like to point out there is always something to winch off anywhere in the journeys and we all Carrie it with us on our 4x4 and that is a spare wheel, what you do is dig a hole deep enough for the tier and you put the winch on the tier and try to bury it standing up and then cover it with the dirt that will get you out of anything try it works i did this years ago and others have followed my idea and thank me . I wish that I had recorded my travels around Oz, when I began touring as a folksinger in 1995 . First run was from Perth to Uluru across the desert, my old kombi went everywhere. went 8 times round over 10 years, beautiful memories.

The furthest inland I've ever gone off main highways in Australia is only about a thousand miles and couldn't believe the incredible drop in temperature when the sun goes down. It's like the sun takes the heat with it, it pulls the heat along with a light breeze away with it. Then suddenly, you're shivering, or at least I was when that breeze stopped.

Alaska to Argentina with a little 2 door Wrangler. Bone Stock. not a single breakdown. Africa was a 4 door JK Wrangler. Lots of mods for living systems, never a single breakdown. Tons of videos on all my adventures here

I read comments from a KZbin keyboard warrior who was saying the canning was a cakewalk and over rated… He had obviously never driven it ! I did it way back in 1997 Would love to do it again but fear I’m too old ! Definitely challenging but oh so fantastic Great to see you have done it in the Jeep People underestimate just how difficult it is just to get there yet alone how long it is Took us 21 days back then With a fuel drop at well 26… Some days we struggled for 9 to 10 hrs a day and only achieved 100 to 120 km a day ! We did the Canning, not as difficult as the East to West crossing of the Simpson. Only went into low range once on a dry river crossing which had a steep bank. Was just in normal city drive for 99.9% of the Canning north to south crossing in a Toyota Prado. Just deflate your tyres. We were in a party six vehicles, no one had any problems. Need to carry fuel or have long range tanks. Fortunately my Prado has a 180 litre (over 48 US gallons) tank as standard. There are a couple of refuelling places on the CSR.

Absolutely stunning production. Good to see how well the gladiator performed in "land cruiser country". Your videos really make one want to pack the vehicle and head on out there. I don't know when, but one day we'll take our gladiator across the CSR.

When we went camping in the Utah desert, we would take sponge baths using a small basin of water. Afterwards, we always felt very refreshed as if we just had a shower! I think it's a good idea to conserve water in the desert! But I'm probably preaching to the choir here! Excellent portrayal of the Australian desert (our is it steppe, here in Utah we'd call it desert).

SO awesome that you got to do that with your Dad, as an Aussie living in the United States it was hard to get back and see my family as often as I would like. Unfortunately, my Dad passed during Covid put things to a grinding holt to my life. Didn't get to say my goodbyes to him. Yep this was epic for sure, been on way worse roads & in worse conditions by myself in very remote locations. Did an out & back job by road that was from Alice Springs through remote places on the SA Border to the WA border & then return to Alice Springs. Non stop. 23 straight hours. If you have enough footage, it would be great to see an extended version of this route, with a lot more personal commentary of your daily experiences, etc. My favourite video of the Canning was Andrew St. Pierre-White's 2017 trip and that journey took about 24 days--I never realized it could be done in 10.

Don’t do it in 10 days, we took 21 days and enjoyed every minute. You do not do yourself any favours doing it in 10 days, and more than likely stresss your vehicle unnecessarily in a remote location.

@@dodgyhodgie734 mate, if you don’t understand what speed does on these tracks it’s not worth me explaining it. If you’ve done this track and others like it, speed can be major contributor to damage. We counted 14 vehicles, 2 motorcycles and one cycle that didn’t make it the last time we did the CSR. Obviously they died from a variety of reasons not just speed damage in my view.

@@davtreloar9236 I have done plenty of outback travel... You can't really go faster on tracks like this, only do longer hours behind the wheel to finish it faster. Which is what was done in this case... Endless vehicles are out there as it's so hard to recover them if they break down and often not worth it.

Just finished watching the video Dan. I was very surprised how well the track held together ( along with the Tanami ) after it rained. That red dirt usually turns to mud real quick and catches a lot of people out when it rains. Just like the black soil of outback Queensland. Great video btw. Glad u enjoyed it 👍

Hard to describe here, but the red silty sand generally dries out really quickly and actually is more compact and easier to drive (ie most of the Simpson tracks). West of Mt Dare Station on the Simpson you get sandy silt, which turns into fantistic bogs after not much rain. Black soil in outback Queensland is the most challenging I have ever experienced. After working out there for a few years we always recommended leaving as soon as rains arrived. Not always what our companies wanted to hear!

I had my only ghost experience ever on the Canning in 1988 when I was 13yo. My family was living and working at Kiwirrkurra at this time. Dad and I were around 30km north of well 33, camping on the track itself in our swags. Dad was asleep while I lay looking up at the stars. I clearly heard the boots of a stockman walk along the track from south to north. Walked right through our campsite without slowing or stopping. My eyes were wide open and I saw nothing. I'll always wonder who or what that was.

@@elroyfudbucker6806 Not a chance, the distances out there are so great that nobody travels alone on foot. Besides, if someone was out there on foot they would have stopped and asked for some water and food. Early the next day I told my Dad what had happened and we searched for tracks - none to be found. I know it's hard to believe but I can promise that I heard the boots clearly. My heart was beating like a drum in my chest. We had a very good relationship with the indigenous people in this area and there's no way anyone could or would walk through the middle of our camp without stopping. I really do suspect it was the ghost of a long passed stockman. I have never since seen or heard anything paranormal.

I have an elderly aboriginal fulla living with me, he really likes Troy Cassar dally it turns out haha what you experienced happened it was real. You can hear my mates bare feet thudding along the floor boards but there’s no one there.

My husband and I,along with another couple in their vehicle, did the CSR a number of years ago using the co-ordinates of the wells. Your video brings back memories of the scenery, I’m a bit sorry you didn’t show any of the actual wells, we found them very interesting. Not sure if you still can but back in the day we had paid to have a drum of diesel fuel dropped about half way along the track for us.

I'm a little sad I completely forgot to take video at the wells! I do have photos, maybe I should have edited those in. These days there are two aboriginal communities near the track where you can buy diesel/petrol, so the days of paying to have a fuel drop are over.
