The most interesting thing about The Beatles? The lads were 4 very different personalities, their post-breakup music is disparate, their attitudes and characters were completely different - yet they culminated in a tight insular group together. They stuck up for each other in the early days, bonded as they'd become by the experiences in Germany. For me, it was remarkable to see their unity and how well they were as foils for and with each other.

In 2004 Paul finally admitted the obvious about the song "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds." It was in fact a song about LSD. I cite for you a Washington Post article from June 3, 2004. They denied it for years because they did not want anybody being influenced to take drugs because of them. Yoko said John felt responsible for that stuff so he always denied any drug references however obvious they may have been. Even going so far as to make up phony denials such as the one John made up in an interview on The Dick Cavet Show about that song in 1971. The other obvious reason they denied drug references was because they did not want their songs being banned from BBC radio because that would hurt album sales. Back then radio air play helped sell records. It was free advertising. As a sideline, Interesting to note that all four banned BBC songs were John songs. The two songs banned for drug references were both on "Pepper."

My favorite Beatles fact is more of a story. When John was shown a bootleg of their Decca audition “Yellow Matter Custard”. He told the guy he had to have it. So John traded an original Butcher cover Yesterday and today for it. John drew a little scribbled drawing on it. Of a man on a hill. Just imagine how much an original butcher cover with a custom Lennon drawing on it would go for nowadays... Side note: when I was going through my dads old records i actually found a copy of Yellow matter custard on the TMOQ label. Still occasionally spin it today. Don’t know how Decca could turn them down I love what they were doing.
