I remember Bob Gardner in his metallic green Mustang being chased by Bill McGovern in his electric blue Imp around Silverstone in .... thinks ... 1978 (?), epic racing. Bob went ahead on the long straights, obviously, but them Bill came screaming up behind him, slipstreaming him round the corners, all but climbing up inside Bob's exhaust. At the end of the race, they did a lap of honour side by side, & congratulated each other on the podium. A great day.

So amazing. I know nothing about this field. Definitely a young boys game. That engine was so clean. Great work and dedication.

Rally noise tests were a real pain in the Imp 998 Chesman unit (sort of) 5000 rpm noise test revs totally cough spit pop bang up down real mare . Yes we snapped 2 cams R22 and 1 crank

Great Interesting video it a 3/8 camchain chain on the imp? Who made the vernier cam sprocket?
@thehillmanator2 жыл бұрын

@@thehillmanator Andy did you know the Imp engine was based on the Sunbeam S7/8 motorbike engine from the 1940's
@ferrumignis Жыл бұрын
@@Tal5258 Pretty sure it was based on the Coventry Climax fire pump engine. The Sunbeam has an air cooled twin cylinder OHV engine, doesn't seem like it would have much in common with the Imp?

How come you are not using a billeted solid camshaft carrier? Havn`t got to the end of the video yet but perhaps it is why the fail (?)happened.

That repair may been fine if it was drilled deeper, and pinned, but I think I'd just drilled it out and tapped it, put a big bolt in it, and put a grub screw in-between the bolt and cam, then machine a nose from the bolt! But that would been more obvious of repair, seems they were trying to pass something by someone, doing the least work possible!

Love what you are sharing here. Excellent stuff. By the way are they emssion Dellorto's? F models?

Shorten the runners a bit, push the TQ up higher, looks like 30-40mm can be taken off it,

Cam might of survived if a longer bolt was used, picked up all the threads available as opposed to just the threads in the hidden cheeky boss...

Love it but I need to give you some in-car camera shot framing lessons 😉

that insert basically made the camshaft much thinner, so thin it weekend it to the point of being no use under load, cheapo fixes work out more expensive in the long run, do it properly do it once,
@thehillmanator Жыл бұрын
yes agreed, i cannot understand why it had been repaired this way
