Nice presentation and overview of these interesting and useful LEDs. Glad I watched because the peel-n-stick flat copper speaker wire is something I've not seen before (in 60+ years of DIYing :). As you know, any wire running low voltages will have a noticeable voltage drop - the longer the run, the more the drop. If the power source can keep up the same amount of power output, the side effect, which can be calculated with Ohm's law, is a proportional increase in amperage. You mention the rating of the speaker wire as 13 Amps and suggest derating it to 12 Amps to be cautious. Such caution is warranted because the rating of 13 Amps is max constant draw (short-term surges can be more of course, e.g. 15 amps for tens of milliseconds). However, unless you know the distance of the wire run fairly accurately - and have a good sense of the actual power being pulled allowing for calculation of the voltage drop - it is better to derate the wire more. There are charts which specify the derating per distance by gauge (... and now we can just ask the various flavors of AI to determine the amount and have the answer immediately). I say all this because of my first reaction to derating a 13 Amps line to merely 12 Amps: "oops, what if that line is 20 feet?" Well, 12 amps over that distance could heat up that flat cable enough to make the adhesive come loose, and perhaps even ignite the paper (if it's not fire retarded). A simple rule of thumb, if you don't have access to tables or a computer: Use a maximum of 80% of the rating, dropping more with lowering voltage, reducing yet even more with increasing distance. For example, say that the run will be 5 foot run, perhaps under a desk. You'd be fine with 10.5 Amps (at 12 volts) on a rated 13 Amp wire. (Actually, flat wire carries less amperage than finely stranded wire.) You might notice that the flat wire will warm even at 10 Amps. Think about it - there is a reason car battery cables are a thick heavy gauge - and the more expensive cables have many strands in them. Welding cables have many finer wires (welders run from 5v to 45 .. 50v and obviously at *very* high amperages). Have fun! Looking forward to seeing more creative projects!

You can attach mains to the copper strips as long as you don't exceed the amperage rating for them. I would say 10 amps would be a better goal than 12 or 13. The problem is that 10 amp service entrance breakers don't come in 10 amp ratings, so the best you can get for protection is 15 Amps. So if you exceed the abilities of the strip, it'll burn and won't trip a breaker.

You can add external sensors, but I have not tried it. That would be the best method I think

If you're looking for an idea of what to do with the Tri-LED Panel Mount Pixels, maybe you can try a house lighting project? I'm more interested in washing the side of the house in color changing lights. It's less important to display a light show, it's more for lighting the house. I'm guessing the lights would need to be angled 20-30 degrees for best coverage and brightness for one floor. But if your house is more than one story, Never-Mind!

Are the connectors for the LED panels anything more than connectors? That direction matters seems to indicate yes, but if i wanted to add space between panels, could i just create my own connectors, or add wire to the connectors?

They are just connectors. Direction only matters bc you don't want 2 data in signals coming to one panel, so the arrows are helpful
