Note about Cyan's Retort - don't use it at low HP when fighting the Commander at Doma! The Commander can counter your counter even if he's been reduced to 0 HP from the attack, leading to a draw which counts as a game over.

I'm sure I'm reading into it, but the implication with casting Imp on the Naughty is pretty hilarious. It shows up to waste your time, and then you waste its time instead, thus intimidating it into fleeing. Maybe not the intended reading of the situation, but the most satisfying one for sure.

This time around I knew about the battle speed and I knew about cases in the game where the game text does not accurately report treasure. Though I didn't know about the sealed cave treasures, it also happens in the Figaro basement and Owzer's dungeon. I knew about the retort glitch, in addition if you turn Cyan into an imp during the execution of that glitch he will counter ANYTHING, but not with retort instead he will counter with normal attacks (it takes some doing to turn him into an imp to execute this and turn him back, but it is unnecessary). While he doesn't use the extremely powerful Retort attack, he will continue taking those counters until EVERY enemy on the screen is dead. When this was discovered it was called "Psycho Cyan" and you'll probably find lots of articles about it as it's way more well known than a lot of the things you've featured. Soft locks are a pretty regular consequence of triggering cutscenes you shouldn't be triggering. Strago is available at all times during the game to go talk to and will simply say "Whatchu want?" or something if you visit him too early, but since you've triggered later flags the game will try to move forward with him, but you also haven't triggered any of the flags from the cutscenes prior to this the game literally does not know what to do. One of the more famous soft locks is the meeting in the returner's hideout where one of the npcs can wonder into the path your characters take to get to the table. The blocking for these cutscenes is extremely strict so they won't go through or around him or turn someone into a moogle or anything else. If you trigger the cutscene while that npc happens to be standing in that spot you'll just walk up to him and soft lock. All the others I'll say I didn't know, while I had observed some of the behaviors, the main point was always something I didn't know

I learned about the battle speed only recently..... I beat 80% of the game at close the lowest level possible, using level averaging to erase experience and only leveling up a character (with an esper boost) if they were going to be forced to get a level up during the level averaging. I did this to maximize my stats using hp+ and mp+ at very specific levels so as to need as few of them as possible. I went through 80% of the game at level 6.... maybe 7-8, all at the hardest setting, the fastest battle speed. Would have been a lot easier to get those max stats had I known about that sooner.

That's why I'll never do a LLG in fact I still ENDED the Floating continent with 12x LV 50 party members with every WoB Esper spell learned on all 12 party members by then.

@@retromemories8522 The trick is to spend time on the Veldt. Plenty of gold and esper magic with none of the experience points. You also want to collect every magic rod possible. They go a long way towards killing things before you can get to the Veldt. Finally, Gau is a god sent in the LLC. I had 3-4 rages picked out, but I primarilly used the same one for 90% of the game. This was years ago so I couldn't tell you which rage that was, but this method let go LLC through 80% of the game (before I blew up my stats with +2 espers) on the hardest difficulty setting. Again, I wouldn't have done the highest speed if I had known the mechanics. For the Opera house, I think I did 1 fight (I was able to erase the experience), but dodging those rats are a pain. Floating continent, I think my biggest pain was the forced exp. I'm pretty sure Gau made short work of Atma Weapon. I probably had Terra on a full charge of convert too. Any really bad fights, go have Terra fight on the Veldt until she has a full convert charge.

Whelks shell always starts at 0 atb so its a constant. The head can have variable atb but we don't care about the head atb

I have an SNES emulator on my phone and have started doing several unique challenge runs with this classic. Something I never saw before happened recently during Cyan's Dream Stooges/Wrexsoul. If before confronting Wrexsoul you decide to explore Cyan's family's living quarters, you'll catch a memory between him Elayne and Owain.

So the stat bug can be exploited in the GBA version to max everyone's stats. Quick save, start a new game, and without saving, get a game over. It'll load your old file, and Terra's level be reduced to 3, but her esper bonuses stay the same. If you play through and meet every character without saving, all of them will have those reduced levels. The GBA version also fixed the stat rollover bug, so have fun. It's also possible to dupe every shield and most weapons in the gba version, and theoretically possible to clone Interceptor. In the final battle, if 3 characters die in every phase of the battle, a perfect clone of terra will occupy the final slot. in the gba version, you can save after the final battle. Unequip the weapon and shield from the clone, and save after beating the game. You've now got two Paladin shields. Interceptor is a status effect. Rippler, because of a bug, exchanges all status effects, not just a few. A confused Strago can steal Interceptor from Shadow and give him to another character. If Terra is given Interceptor, then it's possible for the clone of Terra to have Interceptor taken away and given to other characters.

Here is one. (Yeah I am old enough to have been a teen on the original release) Without the internet being around in 94, we could only try the rumors out. And the big one was: "You could bring General Leo back to live as a party member, if you got everyone to Level 99. You also needed 9999HP and 999MP on all characters." Yeah it turned out to be not true.

There were many rumors on methods, weird stuff like fighting a specific enemy and using a specific item, making it sound more like a glitch that could be possible but also wasting time with setups that never went anywhere. Good old trolling. The funniest thing is there's now methods to get Leo out of the scripted scenes with glitches. Who knows, maybe one of those people back then actually knew and were lost in the noise.

Sort of. Psycho cyan deals more with turning him into an imp and he attacks everything until they are all dead. Its an extra step to the same setup :)

I will never understand the hate for Cyan. He's my favorite character, and I've always found him super useful. Setzer is the useless one.

Both have their uses. Setzer with fixed dice/dice around level 50 can put out mad damage. The main issue i think people have with cyan is just waiting on his sword tech charge time. Retort glitch thooooooo

@BdudeGames I think one of the best pixel remaster changes was making Cyans bushido not have the charge bar. I think Cyan unglitched is op, especially for single target fights... so MOST bosses (I'll concede the inability to control who he targets is a big problem for some fights, but you can make that argument for Sabin as well). Idk. I guess waiting for him to charge never bothered me... it was just how it was. But I have my complaints for literally every character in the game. Morph is essentially useless... Runic is really only good for the one fight she teaches it to you because after that your party essentially is crippled by it unless you go with an all out physical team... which I wouldn't use her in anyway since she is pretty mediocre as her balance makes her outshines by literally someone else in every way... Gau's Rages are useful but they are a pain to get with the system it uses. Stragos best Blue Magics are easily missable and his best one is against an optional boss who is quite difficult who may or may not even use the spell. Relms sketch isn't consistent. Edgar is useless outside of his tools. Shadow looks badass but is pretty weak overall, same issue as Celes. Locke is the quintessential op hero... which is weird because I always saw Terra as the main protagonist. But even as the op main hero... he isn't that op... which is fine but his gear restrictions severely limit him and outside of steal he's pretty generic gameplay wise. Mogs dances fail too much. Umaro is a beast you can't control and I think is actually the most op not glitched in the game and those who say different haven't really used him. Gogo is only op because of his abilities. I love VI but I think gameplay wise is one of the weakest because I feel like they dropped the ball on the ability side of things... either they are too complex or worthless. Not every ff game is immune to this very issue, but VI its the most prominent. Great cast, poor execution in their abilities. I always tell people that VI is a top tier story with mid tier gameplay. I understand why it's a lot of people's favorite... but for me it's top 5. Then again, I will agree that VI is better in every way to that atrocious abomination FFX. 🤮

@@DPopenhagen12 these discussions are fun. I'm assuming this is all from a more casual player stand point where you can make and hone your characters which is totally fair. Its funny cuz every character you didn't like is the goat in a speed run and all the ones that are good when taking time to make them are useless. Its a really fun dynamic. Morph can be useless since if you take the time to level and whatever terra does enough damage, but when going fast her morph is an essential tool in her kit. Which is why I like all these different opinions and talks. And why I love the game as much as I do lol

Even WITOHUT the Charge bar the sword techs STILL have a Charge up time that Cyan is still better off using 5000+ damage Ultima spells ON the Pixel version. But Intangirs on THAT version can't be Vanish + Doomed to death and the Rhodox rage to kill them instantly on that version will FAIL as well so only learn all the WoB spells on the Floating continent only because of that. At lv 99 Umaro still SUCKS Gogo at lv 99 IS still worth using.

If you didn't know about battle speed, you don't fonal fantasy......it's literally in the options. There's also a 2 player mode in this game......you can select which players co troller 1 and controller 2 will operate.

the battle speed is more about how it only affects the enemies atb and not ours. in other versions or games it can affect both but here it only benefits us getting more options in :)

@BdudeGames I thought battle speed simply increased the rate of ALL gages, ours (which we can clearly see the bar) as well as the enemies. Keeping the turns in the same order they would naturally progress. Simply enhancing the speed rate.
