Hey Jim, I crafted this deck the day Bloomburrow released and reached Diamond with it just now. I love aggro, I love prowess and I especially love Elusive Otter, Emberheart Challenger and Shock. Thank you so much!

lol, everyone playing Seth lately is doing impressions of him and it’s great. Jim’s was way better than CGB’s. 😂

I'm curious if you considered Stormcatch Mentor for this list w/ a few more 2-mana spells to take advantage of the discount. Maybe Negate, Deduce, Pearl of Wisdom, or Water Wings
@dr.zoidberg86663 ай бұрын
That last game is the exact problem I've had with Izzet prowess. It wants to be so low to the ground that getting the wrong color mana messes up the whole game. My thought has been that maybe Izzet is better as a more controlling deck with the new otter plainswalker as the win con. Edit: PLUS if you're just making prowess tokens & have no other creatures that synergizes really well with the blue Season... control deck with prowess tokens & a one-sided boardwipe
@MattyIce2133 ай бұрын
I had the same thought, some sort of Izzet control deck is gonna be one of the first things I brew on the 30th. I'd still probably play Kitsa though, 2 mana looter with a decent body and a bunch of upside seems worth it.

@@MattyIce213 I like the filtering that otter has, especially for Stormchaser's Talent. Think of the interaction between Stormchaser's Talent & Season of Weaving. Play Season of Weaving, bounce everything to the hand except your otter tokens & swing. Next turn play Stormchaser's Talent to make an Otter & get back your season. Repeat forever until oppo ragequits. Edit: Oh shit & add that new crab into the mix & use the token making mode of Season to copy it... Good lord, if this deck can survive to turn 6 I think it's gonna be a real headache lol

@@dr.zoidberg8666 Unless you're playing against Boros Convoke or the new rabbits deck where half their creatures are tokens so your boardwipe doesn't actually wipe the board. I'm not super high on season of weaving in general, though I'll still try it out to see if it impresses. I figure if I'm gonna play a big 6 mana sorcery speed card I'd rather play Chandra and start copying spells with her.
@dr.zoidberg86663 ай бұрын
@@MattyIce213 I think that's a marginal thing -- most decks aren't gonna be token decks & even if they are the modality still makes it good. Plus remember, it doesn't just bounce creatures. It bounces all non-land/token permanents. I think people are way underestimating the impact of this card. Tbh, I don't even know if this deck wants to be Izzet the more I think of it. I'd rather cut Ral than the season, then I can easily go Dimir & have a significantly better removal selection anyway.
@MattyIce2133 ай бұрын
@@dr.zoidberg8666 If you cut Ral and go Dimir what's the win con? Jace? I don't think attacking with 1/1 prowess tokens from Stormchaser's talent is gonna be enough. You've gotta have some sort of inevitability.

Otter annihilation.
@TheEvolver3113 ай бұрын
Cutting some non-creature spells to fit in Frolicking Familar would be nice, a cheap 1 R instant and a 3cmv prowess flyer in the bank, just helps with the issue this deck always has of to much or to little of either creature or non-creature spells.

My LGS is having an RCQ this fall, and I'd really like to compete, but it's modern, which I've never really liked. How can I go about learning the format? I started playing in 2009 so it's probably a lot of cards I've seen before, but I'm almost exclusively a standard/limited player. As a start, I built Rakdos Vampires on Arena for Explorer.
@JimDavisMTG3 ай бұрын
Unfortunately Modern is both expensive as well as difficult to get in to, as it basically rotates again with each new Modern Horizons release power creeping the format. Definitely watch some content and check it out but don’t expect to recognize much sadly.

I don't think it's that good for this deck. If you are not getting something out of it's spell cost reduction effect I don't see how it's worth playing and this deck doesn't

@@TheEvolver311 True you might be able to adjust the spells alittle but it does work with the adventure otter and the lightning strikes already.
