Could cost £7 for a pint 🍺 in some pubs these days! Fascinating Paul, great video. 👏

I'll be avoiding those £7 a pint pubs. £2.70 for a pint of best in my local at the moment and I thought that was scandalous!

Great video the ten shilling banknote was the first banknote that started my banknote collection when I was a child. Along with an assortment of pre-decimal coins they were given to me by my grandma and some other things all of which I still have.

Such a beautiful note. I love the look of old British notes !!!

When the UK went decimal I was in Cyprus with the RAF. A Cyprus Pound was tied to Sterling but split into 1000 millimes. Almost as many UK Banknotes were in circulation on the Island as Cyprus ones but worth the same so nobody cared. Then Harold Wilson devalued Sterling and you could no longer use UK ones. The experience made life easy when I returned to the UK in 1972.

I just missed these as I was born in 1967. The note seems very grand. No wonder people feel nostalgic. But surely it's easier working out in 10s instead of converting pennies in groups of 12 and shillings in groups of 20?

Me too Dave. I worked in a bar at a holiday camp in the mid 70s and bitter was 40p a pint. Some of the campers were outraged at the high prices.

Even though I love coins I think I would prefer to keep the notes for the £5 and £10 denomination. Those coins would probably be quite weighty. That ten shilling note was in amazing condition and I agree the old money was better 😊👍. I can't remember kidney soup 🤔, obviously something my mother avoided buying 😆.

Kidney soup doesn't sound very palatable 🤢. £5 coins in circulation? I doubt it. Weight would definitely be a factor. Nice vid CP and a great recap of prices from all those years ago 👍
@CoinPatrol3 жыл бұрын
Yes, if it was realeased the same size as those token £5 coins, then it would be too heavy 👍

Ten bob note before my time but it is in lovely condition
@zetectic79683 жыл бұрын
Given at the time my pocket money was half a crown, ten bob was a fortune. With a 10/- note Dad could take out the family, buy petrol & afternoon tea. With the new polymer notes lasting much longer they won't mint a £5 coin for circulation. People complain about the size & weight of the £2. I remember buy a few pints for 20p but it soon rose to 22p in the mid 70's. Going to the pub with a quid meant a good time. Today £20 soon disappears ☹

How many people these days refers to the 50 pence as a ten Bob bit? Not many I’m sure. Quite amazing what you could buy then with it. I reckon that would now cost closer to a tenner rather than £5. Bread always interests me even when I was a young lad. Bread was best part of 50p. These days maybe £1. So I’d say bread had sliced through the inflation
