I lived in Boise for 2.5 years. While the employment situations were pretty terrible, I made a lot of great friends during that time. Living in Chicago again near family and people are pretty icy here in this big city. Would consider moving back just because the people are so friendly.

Don't move to Boise if you are handicapped. The bus system shuts down by 6:00 pm. My late husband was a blind gentleman and he said that the bus service in Boise hadn't improved since he moved here in the sixties! A blind guy can't go to an evening movie or out to dinner in Boise. Well, technically he can go out to those places but good luck getting home afterward because the busses aren't running.

Leslie, I’m sure your late husband was Paul Brickey, our wonderful piano tuner when I was growing up in Emmett. Please accept my condolences on his passing this summer ~ I’m sure you must miss him terribly. And you’re absolutely right about our local public transit system needing improvement. Although some routes do run later in the evening on weekdays, many do close by 6 or 6:15. And many don’t run at all on weekends. Definitely room for improvement!

Oh boy. I’m going to try to be tactful here, but probably won’t succeed. Idaho has leaned Conservative for as long as it’s been a state, but in the past there was always a willingness to reach across party lines for the good of the population as a whole. We had two popular and successful Democratic Governors when I was growing up: John Evans and Cecil Andrus. The Legislature and the Governor worked well together, focusing less on party lines and more on the good of the state as a whole. The focus of the state government was on Idaho and Idahoans, and not on the kind of national political issues that have served to drive a wedge between Left and Right in more recent times. Things have changed since I was younger, and not for the better. There seems to be a lack of give and take, a lack of civility, and definitely a lack of focus on Idaho and Idahoans in our state politics.
