Winchester wasn't making many civilian rifle during WWII, and this would have been a very early pattern of the legendary Model 70. Was also in fantastic condition. To a collector of All Things Winchester, the original projection of $5.5-8.5k seems reasonable. But obviously 2 very affluent people had collections that this rifle would Complete (tm). And the auctioneers just made their client and themselves a shitload of money, so they want to show that off as advertising to anyone else who wants to sell anything of just how high they can drive that sale price for you.

@@quentinking4351 and keep in mind it’s an investment the longer the individual hangs onto it who purchased the item the greater the value of the item becomes. And like you said it’s a very rare item in excellent condition. I’m surprised it didn’t go for more if I had the financial resources to own an item as rare as this, I would have no problem handing out that kind of cash because I know in a long run, it will only increase in value a.k.a. market price.

It is a fairly rare caliber for the supergrade, and it is a carbine, which is very rare for a supergrade, and it is in nearly 100% mint condition. Add the year of manufacture, if it was during ww2, all of that makes it very valuable. A comparison would be my 1951 22 hornet supergrade, with extremely well figured wood, later model= less value, rare caliber, + . 24" rifle barrel, - adds up to a rifle worth about 10k

@@shawndmiles6747 No I get that…my point is is the extra 0.25 MOA of accuracy worth thousands to tens of thousands more? This isn’t even getting into the fact that wood is nowhere near as conducive for accuracy as modern materials due to issues such as swelling in humidity, water intrusion, etc.
