Some of my favorite albums of all time are widely underrated or even disliked ones by more well-known prog bands. Some examples: Invisible Touch - Genesis Talk - Yes Falling Into Infinity - Dream Theater Sorceress - Opeth Vector - Haken Pitfalls - Leprous I realize I’m slightly insane lol! These aren’t necessarily my favorite by each band, but for whatever reason I love prog bands writing poppier music apparently.

I appreciate the choices, and as for underrated in my thoughts, is Junxion. I love their 2019 EP Stories of the Revolution. It's 3/4s epics. I enjoy the tracks Polyalphabetical Substitution Cipher and Compulsion to Psychogenesis. It's Prog rock, but I enjoyed it even though I never had the chance to listen to Epiphany or the bonus track - Breaking Waves

Oooh, I'm not familiar with that! Definitely gonna check into it :)

@RhymeSignatures Those two tracks I listened to are the ones that have been or still are on my main playlist. It's best on good headphones as they're so niche. Plus, Compulsion has a buildup. I would love for a reply after you listen to this to see and compare thoughts.

Oh damn! I believe it's the first time I see someone talking about Explorers' Club! Man I love this album, not so much the second one.

@@RhymeSignatures Those Gardner brothers were so productive back then. Can't say I love most of their work with Magellan, but Explorers Club is on another level! Yeah, I'll be listening to it in the car on my way to work :)

I just listened to Kaleidoscope, it was very good, thanks for the recommendations... I'll check out the others I haven't heard. Tall Poppy Syndrome is definitely underrated/under discussed. Their first two albums sound like a different band, one that I prefer even though I do enjoy the albums afterwards. I have TPS just behind Bilateral... Seeing Leprous fans list TPS towards the bottom is criminal.
@RhymeSignatures5 ай бұрын
Yeah, any time I see TPS hanging low in rankings, I have to wonder what on earth is going on?? There's so many bangers on that album! Glad you enjoyed Kaleidoscope! I hope you find a few others out of this video too :)

There's a Bulgarian band called TDK whose last 2 albums you can check out. 2019's 'Uspeh' ('success' in English) and 2023's 'Nemesta' ('non-places' in English). Uspeh is more accessible but very, very interesting nonetheless. Nemesta however, is really out there and experimental in comparison.

Age of Impact is great, like a forgotten Magellan album. Trent Gardner realised another fantastic album with James Labrie and guest called Leonardo- The Absolute Man. It's an amazing rock opera.

If you liked Explorer's Club, try Magellan, it sounds fairly similar (it's mostly the same creative team); I especially recommend "Impending Ascension" (1994).

Best EP that came out in 2023 was from a Greek post rock band called Sidus. The Seimos EP is amazing, especially Stage III. No one online has listened to it apart from me it seems. I champion this to all my prog friends!

@@RhymeSignatures maybe..sadly I like some of Coal, but most Leprous I struggle with. They're hardly as derivative as many "Prog Metal" bands over the last 20 years, but I wish I could say their music has ever really excited me. Perhaps the 1 I bought could though.

Afasia - Nelle Vesti Del Mio Ego gets my vote for an underrated Prog Album. An Italian Dream Theater with a hydra-headed metaphor...on several levels, from physics to Greek mythology. I've heard five of your choices. I liked all five. I own three.

It's well worth another shot!! There's nothing else quite like it in their discography, if it weren't for how distinctive Einar's voice is, you could be easily convinced it's a different band entirely

@@RhymeSignatures for sure! And I think the death growls were actually done by the backing guitarist who had left the band shortly after. I could be wrong on that; don’t quote me!
