I saw Humble Pie on April 12, 1971, opening for Black Sabbath, in Alexandria, VA (In a 3000 capacity skating rink!). A 16 year old's very first concert. I saw TYA in Birmingham, AL in '73, and there again about '75 (or '76). Alvin was in the process of leaving TYA at that time, so I didn't expect him to show up. But he did. Who'd they play with in Providence? Was it close to April?

Man I love his phrasing.. back in the mid 60's only three guitarists ruled when it came to phrasing.. that's Jimi, Alvin & Eric while he was still with John Mayall.. Alvin got tired of the same old phrases by 1973 and Eric completely lost it until he started playing with bonnie and Clyde (sorry Del and Bonnie ;-) Watching this video is almost like sitting in the audience when they were recording "Undead"!

@polymath7 My thoughts are based on the old live Cream version on KZbin where they jam with no audience - watched it about 75 times. It's one of the best on KZbin. So to assert anything is "better" is a tall, tall order. Let's just say they are both among the finest examples of what authentic rock music is all about - high energy, skilled musicians who are totally inside the sound, volume and burning hot vacuum tubes, transcendent emotions, eccentric style. Yeah life is good.
