Honestly though, I had a landlord who was super strict and seemed wound very tightly. When he did the walk through to move out he was so relieved that he gave me a big hug and said "thank you for treating it like a home". He wasn't some big time property manager, he lived in the other side of the duplex and the last 3 tenants had trashed and destroyed his beautiful home, costing him tons of money and stress. I suddenly understood why he had been so overbearing as a landlord, and he was suddenly embarrassed for the way he treated us as tenants. I still see him around because it's a small town but I hope he got good tenants after us.

Even if she left her items, isn't it still the Defendant's responsibility to clear the property upon vacating? It shouldn't matter who owned what. The apartment should have been cleared of ALL property. Who removes what is between the tenants.

Probably because she got her part of the deposit back. The plaintiff should have made sure of the condition she left it in before giving it back.

But they were living as a couple and the defendant didn't say to the plaintiff you need to check the mess she left me with, and he stated that he would be staying there. I don't know but this seems like a bit of a grey area to me.

Yes, it is, for he was on the lease, was to leave it the way it was given to him, clean and spotless.

No, the landlord has a responsibility to document in what condition the apartment was when he started accepting that extra 100/month for security deposit.

@tiibbo- He and his child’s mother were living as a couple, the wasn’t renting a separate room. Those are HIS child’s things, what kind of father leaves his child’s things behind regardless to what the landlord did or didn’t do.

Well, that's a first. The Closed Captions don't match at all! I don't use them but they were playing as soon as I tapped the thumbnail. Not the plaintiff yammering on and on, rifleling with his paperwork.

Whoever posts these needs to get their act together. Very often, "part 1" is actually "part 2". Sometimes a part 3 is simply missing, the subtitles/transcription are incorrect (like this one)...it's horrible and would take all of 20 seconds to check. Have some standards please.
