Hi Damian, I am trying to get the measurement from one duck board to the other for the two bars so I can work out the base measurements for the four holes (removing the swim grab handle). I am struggling to get it accurate since the engines are in the way. Is this something you can share with me please? Huge thanks if you can?

Lets see a video heaving that dinghy on the rack. We have our on the roof, it's not the best with 63 lbs of inflatable fun, but it's out of the way. We keep the SUP racks and another SUP on the aft port rail. Good option while preserving visibility.

Check out kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4nHdJl9mdt0fNU you can see how easy it is to pull the tender out onto the rack. We don't have roof racks (at the moment).

How is it feel loading the dinghy onto the rack in the middle of the water by yourself? Is it easy? I'm asking because I know the dinghy weights at least 100 lbs without motor and it's bulky. Is that a one man job or you need a helper?
@TheRudder
@TheRudder Жыл бұрын
Really is a two person job, not that heavy but just tricky to handle. Our tender is about 35kg (70 lbs) and we are just about to test another tender that is only 25kg (55lbs) with motor.

Hi a great solution and great video. Thanks for sharing all your fab content. Been looking at getting one made for my Antares 11. Just wondering though if you considered the option of designing a rack that enabled you the option to put the tender on upside down? If the horizontal bars were close enough together then they might just fit inside the dinghy between the tubes, and rest on the inside of the floor. I’m thinking of this design as it would enable the dinghy to sit lower on the rack when the engines are trimmed down, giving better visibility out the back when under way. Also means the dinghy could stow with bottom facing upwards reducing the chance of it filling up with rain. Downside is the slide out seat in the dinghy would have to be stowed elsewhere plus might be a bit of a faf getting dinghy onto rack. Just asking as considering this as a design option and keen to know your thoughts? Many thanks Jim
@TheRudder

Thanks Jim, we often store the tender upside down with the resting on the seat and the transom. Stops the tender from filling with water. It is a bit of a pain, we drag it up and then flip it on the rack. Maybe have a chat with the guys at Shine Stainless who did the design and see if it will work. Will have to watch out for the engine trim if the rack is inside the tender. Cheers

hello. your idea is great. May I ask you why you made a rear angle to the stainless steel structure? isn't that a problem for the overall length of the boat? Do you see an error if we decrease the height of the set? Anyway congratulations. I will wait for your answers and do the same on my mf 895 in France. Cordially Bernard.
@TheRudder
@TheRudder Жыл бұрын
Hi Bernard, the frame is swept back to allow for the beam width of your tender. Otherwise it will intrude into the cockpit space, especially if you put up canvas to protect the cockpit. photos.app.goo.gl/gVTnCDt5WTpiMYAc6 I guess it makes the boat a little longer but is that a problem? Just ensure you allow enough room for the engines to tilt if you lower the frame.

Many thanks for yet another excellent video. Great idea to build this gantry over the outboards to house the dinghy. Plus incorporating a place to hang the dinghy outboard. Am I right in thinking it is secured with four extended bolts that fit through the four holes on the swim platforms? I think you have cleverly used the existing holes on the starboard side ( after removing the existing grab rail). Then drilled new holes to match on the port side? I am very keen to try and build a similar unit. How much does it weigh please? It would be good to have a rough price in Australian dollars, but appreciate you might not want to give this. Sadly your builders are too far away for me to use! By the way what length is your dinghy? Mine is 2.5 metres so should fit OK. Thanks again for posting such interesting and informative videos and really look forward to seeing more. I really envy you a lovely long Aussie Summer ahead to enjoy your new boat. Great to see the green grass mat again. Hope they are both using it!

Hi John, yes you are right about the holes. Two on the starboard side exist and two new holes on the port side. Our tender is 2.3m. sorry no idea how heavy it is but it is sturdy. Our tender is about 30kg (I think). It doesn't move even on the plane. It cost $3400au. We had quote out to $5500! Yes the green mat is a must!! Although there was an accident inside the other night we were out!!
