In the UK. Have ordered extra battery but due at end of July. One problem I can foresee is that it is easily stolen! The kicker can be locked but not the extra battery. Must remember this when leaving dinghy unattended.

Yes I have thought that as well. I take the magnetic 'key' AND the throttle control with me which makes the motor fairly useless. But someone might only realise that AFTER they have taken it. You can padlock the transom screws as well.

Hi, great reviews. I've watched a lot now. How hot do you find the cabin in summer when at anchor during the Australian summer in the 795 or 895 (series 1 or 2) thanks.
@TheRudder
@TheRudder 4 күн бұрын
I haven't anchored in the 795 but have a lot in our 895. We have two fans in the bow cabin and one in the mid cab. The cabins have a good amount of air movement in them and generally we can sleep through most night without trouble. Only the really hottest nights with high humidity are uncomfortable. Definitely need fans though.
@Karijini-x6w
@Karijini-x6w 4 күн бұрын
@TheRudder thanks for the reply. Are the fans hard to install later? I'm looking at second hand boats that don't have the fans installed. Also how much roughly does a bimini and side cost for the back?
@TheRudder
@TheRudder 3 күн бұрын
@@Karijini-x6w I didn't do the install but they aren't too hard. Just need to run the wires. The Bimini and storage covers were just under $5k aud. A bit more than I expected

Love the videos Question: Why did you choose the 895? Over here in Florida and considering one Thanks
@TheRudder
@TheRudder 7 күн бұрын
Thanks Karon, we chose the 895 for a few reasons, outboard power -was sick of servicing inboards; the amount of space in a small vessel and the ability to go away and stay on anchor for several days. Liked it way more than the Antares and Avor that in a similar bracket.

In the UK and much of the EU a big difference is you can trailer the 695 on a basic car licence, but the 795 just hits the threshold of needing a HGV (Heavy Good Vehicle) licence. It's why the 7m versions of boats (and the Antares 7, Parker 700) or the smaller versions are so incredibly popular in Europe. If you're not trailering but leaving dockside, dock rack, or you're trailering in a country where it's legal (I've heard some parts of US, Canada, Australia) the larger versions offer SO much more.

To answer the question of 'can you', YES. Should you, always depends. I would not recommend this as a boat to trailer every time, but a great option for periodic service, or moving it to new and exciting cruising grounds. If an 895 lives on the trailer, it's almost certainly going to be significantly under used. The process for recovering and securing is not like a 13' whaler. The angle of the ramp and the boat make it very hard to have the hull run parallel to the trailer. If you over tighten the trailer wench, you will end up flexing the trailer and the boat will not be in contact with the rear of the trailer bunks. Getting that alignment correct as well as the fore and aft position to have the desired tongue weight (somewhere between 800 and 1000lbs) is key to a good ride. We had her too tight for our first haul and she was not super stable. On our return, we had her placed nicely with a travel lift and the drive home was much smoother. With that kind of weight (almost 12,500lbs) the right set up is key. Surge brakes are neat, but worthless if she's dragging you backwards down the ramp. Get electric over hydraulic and service them and verify function before you drive off and before you start down the ramp, unless you really want to wash your truck. Good luck
@westmurphy6450
@westmurphy6450 19 күн бұрын
Here's a fun detail few read about their truck and it's towing capacity: the limit to the weight at the bumper is 5,000lbs, even on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, unless of course as the manual states, you use a weight distributing hitch. You see them all the time on travel trailers, but rarely on even large boat trailers, usually because the narrow tongue. You'll probably need a pole tongue adapter. We hauled our 895 4 times, and the weight distributing hitch really helped to put the weight back onto the front axle of the truck. All that said, these light weight aluminum trailers are pretty bendy. Watch when they stop at the top of the ramp. There can be lots of flex in the I beams and even with a good tongue weight distribution you'll have more load on the trailer's front axle. Go big on the trailer. Our boat loaded weighed closer to 10,700lbs so a size up on the trailer is always a good idea. Happy cruising and good luck squeezing that 10ft load down the highway.

To play Spotify, do you need to have your cell phone nearby? Does it have phone on it, like the apple watch?
@TheRudder

You can not stream Spotify without your phone, however you can download playlists to you watch and play without your phone. This means you can go for a run, play your Spotify playlist to your Bluetooth headphones, without your watch. Garmin watches don't have a SIM card (like apple), but the battery lasts for weeks, rather than day/s.

My Takacat is rusting! The transom tubes of the open transom are made of stainless steel 304 (V2A) (also for cost reasons). The tubes show ugly rust after a short time in a salt water environment. From my point of view, the maintenance is very time-consuming and is not reasonable for me. Unfortunately, I only found out about this disadvantage of the high maintenance effort after the purchase. For me, this product is not recommended for salt water environments. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed with the Takacat 340 LS for the above reasons. It does not meet my expectations and, in my opinion, is only partially suitable for my application as a full time yacht tender. I quote from Takacat's care instructions: 1. A first care step when driving in salt water is washing the transom tubes at the end of a trip with fresh water (fresh water) including thorough drying. 2. The insides of the transom tubes can be pulled through with an extra-long bottle brush. 3. If corrosion has formed, it can be removed with a stainless steel cleaner. 4. If you drive permanently in salt water, it is advisable to spray the transom tubes and optional slip wheels with a seawater-resistant stainless steel protector. Are you aware of that issue? Best regards Xaver

Thank you so much, Damian! Great review, and good quality recording / lighting. My question is whether this is the Quatrix 7 Standard? That is the unit I'm considering for regatta sailing. It is also the cheaper one in the series that applies to my intended use. You mentioning that "it is blowing a bit" shows a difference of opinion on that windy bit ;o) I would want it to really blow! If the wind is up, us multihull sailors are out on the water. Often out of sight. Cheers! Marc

Hi Marc, this is the Quatix 7 Sapphire. Which I think is now called Pro. I would ensure that the unit you are looking at has AMOLED display. It really makes a difference, especially in low light and night conditions. As a stink boat we are always looking to hide from the wind, exact opposite to sail🤣🤣. I'm not really familiar with performance race sailing but there are a few activities on the watch dedicated for racing. Hope that helps.

If you dont own the dock thats around 7000-10000$ per year to add. You should also factor in depreciation of engines and electronics. Say in 10 years you gonna get new engines and new electronics. That might be another 50000$ you need to divide by 10 years and have 5000$ aside every year accumulating. Hull repair , trailer repair if you have trailer , upholstery repair and replacement, anchor winch etc you need to be having depreciation schedule or just put another 5% of the cost aside each year. Petrol is usually the lowest part of the expenses

Great to see the Yamahas and that joystick control system, thanks. Interesting to compare the Yamaha 250 hp to the mercury 225 hp we had fitted to our new 895 S2. We achieve 62 l/hr at 19-24 knots so far (with the tide I even got 58 l/hr) and we get around 9-10 l/hr at six knots, in contrast to the 14 l/h you got… we do a lot at this speed so the economy we appreciate. Nice to have but I wonder if you felt the joystick was needed given your extensive experience with the 895? We didn’t get it and don’t feel the boat needs it as it’s very easy to handle, in fact it’s our first thruster in a boat for a while so we feel it’s a breeze to park. Thanks again for your thoughts and experience! T

Those fuel numbers look very close to our S1 numbers with 2x 200hp. I think the extra horsepower took a little bit more fuel. Good question around the joystick. It probably isn't required but certainly makes things easy. It is the first bow thruster I've had as well and I feel I can control everything as required. I think a lot of fishermen want it for its trawling ability. Happy boating Tony.
