Hey Damian - Hi from Ireland. Great video as always. When you say you use the coffee machine or Brooke's hair straightener - do you power the appliances by plugging them into the generator... or do you plug the shower power into the generator and just draw the power from the boat sockets that way? Maybe there is no difference, just not sure the latter is possible? Thanks
@TheRudder

Hi, so cool to know where are viewers are all from. Hope winter isn't too bad in Ireland. We plug everything directly into the generator. I guess we could plug in shore power and then plug in but just more cables. Hope that clears it up. Cheers

@@TheRudder Thanks Damian. Makes sense, I was just wondering if the generator would not put out enough power for the onboard system to function properly. But that makes sense. Yea all good in Ireland mate, a storm passing through today. But getting ready for the season to start now in March. Keep up the good work, great channel.

Q: do you have your boat antifouled even though it's in a fab dock?
@TheRudder
@TheRudder 5 күн бұрын
No, it does have an epoxy sealant on the gelcoat, but not antifoul. Epoxy goes on there once, and hasn't been renewed.

Fun video. Forward, we have a 3/4" board that spans side to side, sitting on the GRP little ledge on each side (the first dimension you gave). This keeps items stowed forward from sliding into the bilge. We also stow 10 life jackets in plastic containers in the lazarette, freeing up valuable space down below in the berths. If we ever needed lifejackets, the idea was to muster safely topsides out of the boat. However, you must unlock the lazarette while on board. Instead of a genset, we may install a home backup system for 120-volt power. Will Prowse [Build a 3,000W Off-grid Solar System in 30 Min! Natural Disaster, Grid Down, RV and More] shows a cost-effective system that expands with 5.1 kWh batteries. Just don't forget the galvanic isolator. Less noise for your neighbors in a mooring field in the morning :)

Your deck looks absolutely gorgeous after that 3 step treatment!! You're obviously in a very sunny and tropical place- us too. But we don't anticipate covering our teak (mostly toerail) with any canvas. Do you think the Semco Teak Sealer will last in a very hot and sunny climate? How often do you recommend to reapply it? And what's the process of doing it (do you need to clean it so thoroughly before each application)? Thanks for your video and looking forward to any advice 😊

@TheRudder
@TheRudder 19 күн бұрын
Unfortunately we don't have a genset :( But yes that is something to watch out for for the engine impellors as well if you start the engines.
@BostonClipper
@BostonClipper 19 күн бұрын
On our 895, we are more concerned with picking up sand with the outboard's water intake than paint on the skeg. The abrasion of the impeller with sandy water really shortens the service life. Worth mentioning for viewers to walk the boat to deeper waters before starting the outboards. Your setup is typical, but it is worth mentioning the Garmin has a depth offset, so your readings are the actual depth and not water below the transducer. If you feel better having the margin of safety, consider bumping the offset in the opposite direction to include the outboards in the fully trimmed-up or down position so your reading is "water below the skeg" instead of "water under the transducer".

@TheRudder

Hi, the main advantage is no annual application of antifoul in your boat. Not only a cost saving every year, but improved performance and no environmental runoff. There is no antifoul on the FAB Dock. Things do grow on it but it doesn't matter. When it is time to sell you can power wash everything off. Not sure about the 🕊️ 🦆 🪿 but they will shit on the boat whether it is antifouled or not!!

We are upgrading as the one we bought was not quite the right size for the MF 895. Prefer Fabdock over Seapen as Seapen doesn't fully empty and the rope is very harsh. Also 240V power and seawater is not a good mix. A bunch of marina have banned Seapen due to stray current. You will still need to seal (with epoxy or other) the hull. Gelcoat needs that protection. It is a once only coat and can be smooth and white. Don't know hullmax, sorry.

Good day from America really enjoy your videos. I am very interested in Mary Fisher 795 or 895 boat although over here they are NC 795 and 895. I know from some of your videos they’re quite handy doing some upgrades on your boat. How have you found the quality of the boats to be? Have you had any significant issues or have you heard of any kind of consistent issues that that boat owners have with these products. Each to their own, but you have a VERY narrow perspective which is only relevant to your own particular circumstances. Good anti-fouling is rather costly but in most cases it lasts for several years, especially if you give your hull a bit of a scrub every few months. I'm not sure pushing the environmental angle is relevant on any ICE powered boat. I think the manufacture and use of your engine has far more impact on the environment than does anti-fouling. Nonetheless, if your system suits your needs and works for you, that's great. However I think you might find not everybody will agree with your views about anti-fouling one's boat.
@TheRudder

Well yes this is my perspective and opinion but there are areas, particularly in the US that are looking at banning antifoul on recreational vessels.

@@TheRudder You are on the Gold Coast so tell me how many power boats wet-docked at the numerous marinas are NOT anti-fouled? I'd guess less than 1% do not have anti-fouling on them. Same in Sydney & Pittwater. Some bathroom sealers are banned in California yet not in any other State. Let me know when antifoul is banned all over the USofA. I won't be holding my breath. Cheers!

That was the boat I was considering but it’s a bit too heavy for our 4Runner to pull. They are almost identical boats, however I do like the 695 better.
