Congratulations on the great work on your dinghy I'm beyond happy that it worked out even better than what you could have expected giving you more speed is an additional advantage. I can't wait to see how your windows turn out. There seems like there isn't anything Cait that you and Sam can't do. You give a lot of thought and time and every project that you're going to do and then you jump on in and get her done. As always stay safe and God bless till next week

Thank you so much Kris! We try tto do most of the work ourselves, it saves us so much in labor costs and we also get to know the boat better! Even just taking the windows out we have learned about how much silicone was in there and how they were put in, etc etc. The silicone is in great if not excellent condition, good to know for all the others. We look forward to reading your comments every week, thank you Kris! Hope you had had an exceptional September! -Cait

The tinny is much improved, good going. I wonder why the pods made it faster? I understand your hesitation about cutting out those nice windows. Any boat part that has proven to be durable is precious! But, a cool breeze in the tropics is invaluable, a necessity. So, surely this is the right decision.

Sailing Teilu tribe put opening windows into their saloon deckhouse front windows ...they are in Mexico now but they put them in for their south America trip . Their boats a 40ft colvic ketch. Jibsea had to modify their Al tender to fit a new outboard but hit the clearence problem ..after cutting and welding.

@@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 We went down the path of making opening windows, but we ran into a bit more complication and we decided to go with polycarbonate and hatches. I'm planning on building an aluminum catamaran and really like the OC Tender but they are over my budget so I'm planning on making my own design. It will be about a 12.7 meter lightweight tender with carbon fiber and I'll either do a foam core or honeycomb core. I've been thinking of incorporating those pod designs into my build and am really happy to hear that you've gained an extra 2 knots with yours. Those pods also help protect other boats from getting hit by the motor. I really like that extra buoyancy on the chimes. That's a really good idea and design. I'll have to think long and hard how I will make mine strong enough to handle a 20 hp. It would be supper nice if I could fit a 25 but that might be too much power. It should be a ripper. Thanks for the tips in design. I'll try to put them to good use.

Awesome, best comments ever! We love hearing that people are finding our videos are useful and helpful! We Love the OC Tenders, they are great, we looked into it but they are out of our budget. We plan on building our own version of an OC tender down the road. The pods have extended the waterline length which contributes to the extra speed and also to the buoyancy. They have been super awesome with giving extra buoyancy with two people are the back of the boat. What is not pictured in any of the videos is a rod holder and we got a cabana umbrella at Spotlight for 60% off and for days out fishing and spending time out in the tinny and in the sun we can pop the umbrella open and have some shade, plus we can bring it to the beach and have shade during a beach day (dual purpose for everything!) Awesome Comment, thank you!!

I used 2 “ black Polly pipe and cut through one side like a pool noodle 😂for our dinghy top rails,it’s hard putting them on using long wedges etc but once on won’t come off and have lasted about 15 years now and probably out live the boat having had cray pots pulled over them for many times

I was going to say the best tender is one that one person can lift and carry up a stony beach…but with a tin boat you can just drag it! One point, how about floatation? Have you done a capsize test? Enough to stop it sinking is often not enough to let you bale it out.
@sailingwiththejamessАй бұрын
One of the criteria when looking for a tinny was the two of us being able to drag it, we are also going to be making and endless loop anchor so we can go ashore in any tide and leave the dingy and do an endless loop. There is foam inside the two seats in the tinny, it was designed and made so if it does capsize it will have stay afloat, the tender collar gives it more stability when walking and moving around in the tender. We are super happy with all the improvements!

I see why many cats now have vertical window, though sloping ones better in a storm, and clean aero. Would it be worth making a fabric shade to go above the windows, blocking the sun, but maintaining the view
@sailingwiththejamessАй бұрын
You are spot on Mark! One of the refit projects is adding a brow above the windows to keep the sun off - we will have the hatches in the 2 middle windows as well as teh brow and hopefully that those 2 things will make a huge difference to the heat inside the boat.

@sailingwiththejamessАй бұрын
@@markthomasson5077 Yes we are going with Polycarbonate material, there is a place in Cairns that does plastics and has an excellent reputation, we are waiting for the material to arrive in and then we will get everything cut and get the windows swapped out and the new ones and hatches in! looking forward to having forward facing hatches!

You know you should never put on your tender the name of the yacht the tender is too. As in countries of poverty it lets everyone know that nobody is onboard your yacht.
@sailingwiththejamessАй бұрын
Its a good point you have and would definitely be useful overseas. We are AMSA and Queensland registered, it is a legal requirement here in Queensland, tenders do not need certificates if they are used for transporting goods or people between the shore and the parent ship and they must be marked with the word 'tender' and the parent vessel. If its not marked with T/T we can be stopped and smacked with a fine, and its easy enough for remove when overseas. I do see the idea and reasoning behind not having it, as it lets everyone know that some or all crew from a particular vessel are ashore. -Cait
