I like to believe this song is about being alone at home and in love with someone inside your head. An obsession that you can't fulfill outside your imagination, a desire strong enough to drive you to the point of seclusion. Something to keep your urges in check but not enough to make you feel less lonely. The lyrics make perfect sense in this instance.
