Gesualdo is in my opinion one of thegreatest composers of all time. Just incredible

Gesualdo is absolutely unique and this performance is as close to perfection as is humanly possible. Bravi tutti!

The angelic voices and the incredible acoustics of the cathedral were meant to be together! What a group for such a hall!!!

If you want a worshipful spiritual experience, while listening, follow along with a good Latin/English translation. The way Gesualdo sets this text is truly remarkable.

Amazingly tensed music in an astounding place. I could imagine that it might be fun to sing in Ely Cathedral.

Quite incredible!! I'd like to sing there myself. I know Ely well.Never thought of trying out the accoustics as walking through. My parents lived 30 mins away. But here where I live in the centre of France, I've an Abbatiale nearly as big, 2 mins away on foot so I go there to sing. I've always sung in churches nearby, then I don't annoy the neighbours as itt can easily go on for 3 hours. Thankyou so much, your voices and music really touched my sou.

That's great, but what do you think about the singing?
@aaroneiler6276 Жыл бұрын
i wonder if they are in tune with some of the organ pipes. The resonance of this cathedral almost sounds like an organ.

As much as the vagaries of the human voice often stubbornly resist the theoretical ideals of the Renaissance, this performance transcends.

This (and by this I mean this and everything else I've had privilege of hearing, of Owain Park and the Gesualdo Six) is as good as it gets. There's no post-production fakery, and every century's music is cast in the mold of its time. Ok. Well, I'm off to find the portal that lets me support them by buying a few CD's . . .

Gesualdo truly wanted to explore the possibilities of harmony within the human voices. And thus the harmony capable between humans. Yes he murdered but his penance was healing through music.

Tenebrae factae sunt, dum crucifixissent Jesum Judaei: et circa horam nonam exclamavit Jesus voce magna: Deus meus, ut quid me dereliquisti? Et inclinato capite, emisit spiritum. Exclamans Jesus voce magna ait: Pater, in manus tuas commendo spiritum meum. Et inclinato capite, emisit spiritum. (Darkness fell when the Jews crucified Jesus: and about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice: My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? And he bowed his head and gave up the ghost. Jesus cried with a loud voice and said: Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit. And he bowed his head and gave up the ghost.)
