I second that Matt, I just hope it would stay pure and true to the music like she was.if it was done by someone like (for example) Tyler Perry and NOT by Spike lee..it would need to keep all the anger and hate out of it. I know it was nasty then, but if it was focused on her and her dancing career, it could be such a great movie.but if her & her legacy was a secondary to the problems of then & now, it would take from (what appears to be) her character and passion for the musical art an her dancing.She was an exceptional Lady, I hope they do a movie about her.

I love how this was shown to prove how valuable everyone's life is in a work of art. Most people never would look at a background dancer, and the documentary about Alice Barker is worth so much to me. She went through little recognition because people would never bother to spell her name correctly, and she would dance for free because it was something she loved to do. I have never met anyone that was happy just being a background dancer, and I think people have a lot to learn from Alice Barker.
@JaesadaSrisuk8 жыл бұрын
There was a fantastic documentary a couple years ago called "10 Feet From Stardom" about backup singers and how under appreciated their art is. Thousands of talented women and men work singing in the background, sometimes for people who are significantly less talented yet more successful than they are.

In a way it is sad that so many actors, dancers, and extras have been in so many movies but they are never recognized. They are competent people who are good at what they do but they never have the opportunity to stand out in a lead role. Yet they show up again and again and again mainly because they love what they do and not because they are well paid. For Alice Barker, this is recognition well deserved. I am sure there are probably many more films in which she appeared and performed well in the role she was given. May she received all the accolades she has earned.

Its what Shakespeare wrote in his monologue "All the world's a stage" in his play "As You Like It" from about 1599 about the different 'scenes' humans encounter during their journey through life. Really worth reading or hearing here on KZbin. At first the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms. .... Last scene of all, That ends this strange eventful history, Is second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

This is just Amazing, i can’t believe all the smiles in their happy faces. The music, the dance just makes me wanna dance! All those nice instruments like the piano and trumpet! It’s like dreaming. Me myself is very interested in these types of stuff and it really makes me wanna go back in time and i thought that way ever since I was little and I still do! It just amazes me

These were amazing it’s sad there is no music like this anymore or even musical performances like this I find it incredible Alice Barker lived to such an old age and truly enjoyed what she did which was dancing and performing
@tears31948 жыл бұрын
its make feel sad that this kind of music and dance is dying and no one could save it because of the hip hop dances and twerking thing.

Same here!! Such a classic genre of dancing. (Love your icon, by the way! Love DHMIS.)

I agree. I only wish I could live back then so I could have some TRUE fun. Not the plastic bullsh*t that we have today.

I personally think this type of music will never die. It has too much soul and spirit to die faster than the garbage that is playing. What's sad is that people don't get to see how valuable this type of entertainment is.

I thought it was odd for them to film that. These were probably either sold to adult movie theaters, or were destroyed, but a few of them were still around. *****

Yup, I sometimes sit and watch TCM, and i wonder where the hell all of the black short films, music videos and movies are? It's always the hundreds of white stuff being played. Damn our people were so talented back then. I'd rather watch them.

In 1943, the dances are just tap dance *In 2019, the dances are twerking* I would seriously pick the 40’s then today
@majlordag18892 жыл бұрын
I believe twerking has been around for ages in "black" culture

Sorry this comment is ridiculously late, but I agree with the first part. People think things were 100% better back then, but they seem to forget that technology, the way we socialized, and other things for the most part were WAY less advanced. Plus, there were events such as The Great Depression and the World Wars which didn't benefit anyone. It's totally fine to be fascinated by those times, but it's pretty ignorant to act like nothing bad happened. You make a great point. And yes, may all their beautiful souls R.I.P. 🌹

I love that when they dance, they don't care if they're on time or doing the moves the exact same. They just smile and have fun with it, and that's what dance should be❤

She was adorable! In 2014 and back when she danced! I would love to see this type of music and dance come back! How blessed she was to get paid for something she loved so much! I know she is dancing in Heaven and loving every second of if! God Bless her! She was a special and lovely lady! I would like to know more about her life!

People were so classy and elegant back then. They also seemed to worry less and looked so much happier and content with their lives. While in the present day I feel like almost everyone is depressed or doesn’t like this or that. Such a loss..
