I lost $20 by not watching. Gave cashier 2 tickets. I know 1 was a $20 winner. She said she scanned them and neither was a winner. I said are you sure. And she said yes, scanned it. But I had 2 tickets folded together. She said nope only 1. So always take a picture even at counter.

Watch out for "them" at hotels too. They get access to your credit card info and ID info very easily there. Owner is always in on it or looks the other way.

Same thing happened to me in Orlando. I handed my ticket to a clerk, and he handed me 40$. I went and checked the winning numbers on my phone, and I had 5/6 numbers. I went back in, and everyone covered for him saying once they are paid out, they are void.

I bought a scratch off from a store in Florida and I checked it on the machine first and it said a winner and I added it up and it was a $20 winner. When the cashier check the lottery ticket she said it was $7 I said no it's $20 I just stood my ground on the $20 and then she knew that I had caught her red-handed because she was going to give me seven and take the remaining amount of the $20 ticket. It's a big rip-off and when they take your lottery ticket and check it and they throw it in the trash saying it's not a winner then that means that something suspicious because they should always hand the ticket back to you. And there's too many thieves out there already

Check your own tickets own self scanner. If it more than five hundred winner, don't say anything, leave the store quietly, don't tell any one you have one million dollar winner ticket. I work at a retail store that sells scratchers. In California, the scanners do not tell you the winning amount of a scratcher above $500, just says that it's a winner. Dude would've probably done this regardless of the winning amount.

I believe this happened to me 12 years ago in Texas with a 15k crossword winner. Guy said only $15 dollars but a few days later I realized the Texas lotto machine makes a difference noise for a big winner.
