Yeah, that's one way to do it. As long as it's not in the weather, it shouldn't need too much of an oil coating. If you run it on the front of a car, I'd oil it down after every hard rain.

Which counties are the rarest? The ones that are/were least populated? I'm still relatively new to license plates.

Yes, by nature of quantity produced. The special use plates are even more rare... like governor's staff and motorcycle plates. The state shaped booster plates are pretty rare and sought after too.

@@BackPorchAntiques I know I don't see plates with my county's code on it much. I don't think it's the rarest by any means but I guess most are in the hands of private collectors. Can't get lucky and dig more out of a hole I guess.

I have 3 plates and wondering how much they are worth. 1951 1962 and a 1965 skinny plate. All found in creek beds with original paint.

If they're Tennessee, they'll hold a higher premium. Condition is also a deciding factor. 1951 Tennessee plates are highly sought after. Also, I'm not sure what a skinny plate is, but it sounds interesting!
