This is a guitar tutorial for Billy Strings' version of Tennessee Stud as performed at the Fretboard Journal. This song was written by Jimmy Driftwood and often performed by Doc Watson. This is closest to Doc Watson's version, but he plays it off of an A chord shape where Billy plays it off of a D chord.
It's worth noting that there is some variation throughout the song where Billy plays a few licks or chords a bit differently. This is a good representation of how he plays is the first time through each part.

How on Earth is he such a good teacher?!? This literally covered the song exactly how I wanted to learn it and was super detailed while not being overly wordy.

This is great! I've been listening to the Eddie Arnold version a lot and then discovered that Doc Watson and Billy both do versions that are closer to the style of guitar I want to play. This is immensely helpful.

This is an **excellent ** lesson. Nice relaxed, straightforward approach and manner, comprehensively covers every part....you're really good at this, you should do more. There are hundreds of really awful tutors on KZbin....what a pleasure to find something so good for a song I really wanted to learn (and this will help almost anyone to get there). Thanks!

Love the information but you may want to consider focusing more on explaining transitions between parts as you seem to explain each part that may have been difficult to learn on our own perfectly but I had to keep going back through your demonstrations because your explanations did not explain exactly how the parts transition together.
@zacharywho5442
@zacharywho5442 3 жыл бұрын
All that said, I'm now learning a song way easier than watching Billy Strings myself like I had to do for the Wagoner's Lad. And it's all because of you, so thanking you kindly.
@zacharywho5442
@zacharywho5442 3 жыл бұрын
A better elaboration is model your explanations after your demonstrations. Make sure once someone follows your steps EXACTLY then that sounds like the Demonstrations. You only seem to explain parts of your demonstration and don't follow-up with a demonstration of those steps as though you're playing with us learning. This video is great for those who already know the Song real well or have no troubles counting in each beat. As a musician who started as a percussionist in school, I find it difficult sometimes to just feel the transition, need to be able to count it. Some of the transitions are naturally difficult to just do if you're counting wrong.

I followed, in the end, by just directly mimicking the strums you were doing, but it still leaves out the technical understanding of what's happening.
