You can't say good people don't live in the Bible belt. You obviously don't live here and if you do your just a dick. Everyone here is Christian. The cleanest, fastest picker ever was Doc Watson, and this kid would tell you the same thing (so would Tony Rice, were he still around to do so). B.S. pays homage to Watson in this song, and a proper tribute it is! Thanks, kid!

@@musicofanatic Absolutely agree - except it isn’t quite speed that marks him. The fiddle tunes were fast but never manic, and always smooth. Here you see Billy emulate Doc’s great solo accompaniment style, where he plays really cool runs during little breaks between and within verses. But except for one flurry of great cross-picking, he doesn’t match up to Doc. I know this because I imagine myself playing a lot if those licks, however badly, after ages of practice. Doc - never could imagine such a thing.

Funny enough... I still see him grow: he is a daredevil- has his skills and his 'fantasies', blends these and goes way beyond other people. Still I see Billy's techniques grow as well, as I noticed in the piece above. He here does some tricky triplets stuff like he is blowing his nose... Now I know, blowing your nose is a piece of cake... Playing triplets right in between the other stuff isn't... Doing so is skilly ART! I've "found" Billy via Molly Tuttle. She is a superb player too! However: she still has to learn to dare and play outside the lines of conservative playing. I hope she plays more with Billy, and will learn, 'cause she can be GREAT too!!! Well... she already IS great, but still... ;)

Yup, we are! I fell in love with Bluegrass at age 6, my dad’s best friend was from Oklahoma, his extended family were leaving the San Bernardino Mountains for Oklahoma and they were giving us there dog, I drove with my dad up into the mountains, Ray’s whole family all played instruments & we had a hoedown in their living room & I was hooked. I studied violin coz I wanted to play fiddle, later I took guitar lessons. I went to all the Coffee Houses and listened to live Bluegrass every chance us got. I learned about the Carter family and the Grand Ole Oprey from my mom, who grew up listening to it on the radio.

Anyone that gets really good at instrument has put in some work. But natural talent is a real thing. Go to a bluegrass festival. There are eight year olds that will make you want to use your guitar as a coffee table. That's talent.

I was barn and raised in Muhlenburg County Ky. Thumb picking was everywhere and everywhere you went there were decent musicians. I was playing by the age of five and although I grew with friends and family that could play and as a kid we would venture over to Ohio County and play and listen to bluegrass. But as I grew up and County Music turned into crud I took a different direction. For yrs now I've listened to and played Led Zeppelin, The Stones,. Guns and Roses, Ozzy, Aerosmith ECT. I still love the classic rock and metal it's in my blood but I have two boys that are excellent musicians. One is hard core and even more hard core than the old man and my other son is bluegrass. He plays mandolin, guitar, and upright bass. A year or so ago he was telling me about this Billy Strings and that if I appreciated great playing it wouldn't matter the genre. Well I figured what the heck I didn't want to be narrow minded so I did look him up and checked him out and within just a little bit I was a huge fan and it brought me back to my roots. It took me back to the first sounds that made me want to be a picker. Unfortunately it reminded me that there are those generational talents and that try as I may have it wasn't me. This kid is from another dimension. I am without fail awestruck each time I watch him play. He's no doubt the best I have ever heard and to boot i dig his style and vocals. Keep it up keep expanding and making other things your very own . Thank you Billy for the enjoyment you've brought to this old Rocker!!!!!!

I lost hope in country music with all the "frew frew" trash coming out of Nashville in the early 2000's and ever since. But Mr.Strings has quickened my heart. He can bend them guitar strings. His voice, his look, his sound is cemented deep in blue grass and as MerleHaggard would say" Genuine real country music".

I live in America and am.Scotch Irish. My Clan Nixon goes back to the Hagan Wall. We were one of the clans under Armstrong. When My clan immigrated, we helped settle the American wilderness. My clan fought in both the Revolution and Civil Wars. I am proud of my Scotch Irish roots. Historians have written if it weren’t for the strong, fighting Scotch Irish, America might still be an English Colony. In fact, the English would give free land outside of their settlements to protect them from Indians. The English were too weak to fight the Indians off. I love this music too. We would play it at family gatherings.

Along about eighteen twenty-five I left Tennessee very much alive I never would have got through the Arkansas mud If I hadn't been a-ridin' on the Tennessee Stud I had some trouble with my sweetheart's pa And one of her brothers was a bad outlaw I sent her a letter by my Uncle Bud And I rode away on the Tennessee Stud The Tennessee Stud was long and lean The color of the sun, and his eyes were green He had the nerve and he had the blood And there never was a horse like the Tennessee Stud One day I was riding in a beautiful land I run smack into an Indian band They jumped their nags with a whoop and a yell And away we rode like a bat out of hell I circled their camp for a time or two Just to show what a Tennessee horse can do The redskin boys couldn't get my blood 'Cause I was a-riding on the Tennessee Stud We drifted on down into no man's land We crossed that river called the Rio Grande I raced my horse with the Spaniard's foal 'Til I got me a skin full of silver and gold Me and a gambler, we couldn't agree We got in a fight over Tennessee We jerked our guns, and he fell with a thud And I got away on the Tennessee Stud I got just as lonesome as a man can be Dreamin' of my girl in Tennessee The Tennessee Stud's green eyes turned blue 'Cause he was a-dreamin' of a sweetheart, too We loped right back across Arkansas; I whupped her brother and I whupped her pa I found that girl with the golden hair And she was a-riding on the Tennessee Mare Stirrup to stirrup and side by side We crossed the mountains and the valleys wide We came to Big Muddy, then we forded the flood On the Tennessee Mare and the Tennessee Stud A pretty little baby on the cabin floor A little horse colt playing 'round the door I love that girl with the golden hair And the Tennessee Stud loves the Tennessee Mare

God, everything everybody had said and more. Discovered him maybe nine months ago, he is introduced me to players and music I hadn't listened to in a long time and I was dragged over the fence by the ears, by the likes of him and Molly Tuttle and several others. I especially love how focused these kids are and how nowadays these kids at least don't seem to act like it's a fast path to drug use and addiction and death. Too many genius players have died young because they could not handle their success. I hope for all of our sakes these kids live long productive rewarding lives.
