Great player! Need to point out that in flatpicking instruction (I have all the DVDs and mags ever published and went to a bluegrass program), "double down" refers to two consecutive eighth notes played with downstrokes, rather than alternating down and up--so, that would be a digression from strict alternate picking. Brandon is referring here to two notes--one quarter and the other eighth--which fall on the beat and thus would be picked with downstrokes, anywho. So, there is no idiosyncratic picking here--just keep going down-up on eighth notes, and watch for quarter notes or rests.

Yup. x2. If there are 16 notes, all the odd ones are down strokes, and the even ones are up. much easier for your flatpicking in the long haul. For example in the intro, just learn how to cross pick two consecutive up strokes on those couple of occasions when a 16th (or a hammer-on) follows and 8th, and you are golden.

Why capo it? Has a lot more boom if you play it without one
