This video was made by special request of the Indiana State Police. Espinoza v. Montana will be coming out soon, after the second case in this video, Graham v. Connor is released.
In this landmark case, we will take a look at a police force case from the 1980s, and how it has shaped what courts do today in regards to how they make decisions on police force cases.

I'm curious how Tennessee v Garner could/would be applied to threats of deadly force such as in high-risk/felony traffic stops where the persons in question have not posed a threat to officers nor have they attempted to flee?

How can I get my hands on the court audio? Would like to have this as a reference to my essay.

Great question. I pulled this audio from www.oyez.org by looking up the court case there. Audio is available for all cases today and there are historical recordings going back to the 1955 - 1956 term. You can also find a direct link in the description!

Soo the rules of engagement for Armed Forces engaging combatants require to identify weapon and the combatant must have intent to use weapon. You all telling it is not sensible to have the same expectation for police officers??? I am all for officer safety but we can do better for both stakeholders!!!

I feel like engagements in the military are not commonly at 1 foot to 20 feet. dont you agree? police officer encounters are less than 20 feet if that. you dont have the luxury to cover move and engage like in the military. If I recall engagements in the military are at a distance where you may have the chance to identify before engagement unless domestic police where you probably should not wait for a suspect 7 feet from you to shoot you first before you engage
