👉 You can use a strap around your forearm to relieve the pressure on the painful tendon in your elbow - they work for tennis elbow as well as for golfer's elbow. Some options: - Strap with pneumatic pad: geni.us/LOaTMH - Strap with built-in pad: geni.us/OgYawK If you buy anything via these links, we may get a small commission at no extra cost to you.

FYI - the 2nd link ("Strap with built-in pad") is no longer functional. Is there a better link you could provide?

Hi great video. ❤ I don’t feel pain when doing the wrist extension, but feel pain with the pronation, is that different to tennis elbow?
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
Pain with pronation is usually something else. Tennis elbow causes pain with supination.

I am going on the 3rd month since this began. Pain has become unbearable to the point of just about crying. I cannot sleep any more, I can't grip or lift anything and pain has worsened to the point where it has now spread to my shoulder! The pain is now traveling from my left shoulder all the way down to my hands. It's throbbing so fiercely and no longer know what to do! I have an elbow brace but, if I tighten it even a little bit the pain intensifies. 😪 When should I see a therapist? I'm struggling to straighten out my arm it hurts so much and it is very swollen.
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 5 ай бұрын
Sounds like you could really benefit from seeing a physiotherapist immediately - your case sounds as if you may actually have nerve involvement and they can test for that and give you exercises and treatment to help calm that down.

Thank you for this, it is great. The only thing missing, and its a big one, is sleep position. I read that most tennis elbow pain is at its worse in the early hours of the morning. If you are a side sleeper, it could be aggravating the injury.
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but what sleep position do you find works? I find it is so tricky because we move at night but a straighter elbow is often more comfortable.

Thank you. I have had tennis elbow for almost two years now. During a lockdown I overdid the arm exercise weights at home. I have had X-ray, Scan and steroid injection. I don’t think it will ever go. I am a cleaner so it’s hard to rest as if I don’t work I don’t get paid. Does heat or cold therapy help for chronic long term pls, and which is best
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
Heat and cold can help with pain management - it doesn't matter which one you use - go for the one that provides the best symptom relief. You may also find that using a tennis elbow strap can be useful during work.

Dear Maryke - Thank you SO MUCH for the very best video I've seen on the subject of "tennis elbow" and I've watched a ton of them. It's approaching one year for me and I feel as if I am finally turning the corner on it (I am a musician and the condition really affected my ability to play trombone and upright bass). Have begun to work on strengthening as well as continuing with some stretching. MY QUESTION is - do you ever recommend using the "Flexbar" as a tool for recovering from tennis elbow? I've purchased a red one (light tension) at the advice of a number of other physio-therapists, and wonder what your take is on their use. Thanks again! Sincerely (with many thanks), Bob Samborski (Chicago, IL - USA, April 20, 2023)
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, yes a flex bar can work - it can just sometimes be easy to overdo it if your wring too hard to try and quantify it for yourself e.g. not as hard as you can but start with about 40% effort and move up over time.

Why do people say im loosing weight im not because of the tennis elbow
@SportsInjuryPhysio

Tennis elbow can make the affected arm lose muscle (which can make that arm look more skinny) if you are not using it as normal , but it won't affect the rest of your body.

I used to do a lot of pushups. I gained some weight and now when I do pushups and overhead pressing with weight, I have immense pain in one elbow. I didn't feel pain resisting when elevating my fist or pulling the fingers you showed. I think it could be related to neck tightness as you described. Should this then be a massage treatment or chiropractor for neck/ shoulder? Thanks
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 10 ай бұрын
You may actually be better off seeing a physio because it might be that you need to adapt your technique etc. and they can provide advice on that + massage if needed. Manipulations won't really provide and lasting solution to this.

now that you mention collagen. Maybe I add some to my diet. I’m 48 years old woman and I have tennis elbow for a year. Cortisone shot helped for 6 months but the pain came back about 2 months ago, this time I tried manual therapy and stretching which made it worse. Now don’t know what to do. Maybe I Rest it, take NSAIDs, use a splint while working and eventually start gently messaging, exercising and stretching when the pain is way less. What do you think Maryke?
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 2 жыл бұрын
Collagen might help, but the research on the matter is rather scant. Here's an article that I wrote about supplements for the Achilles tendon, but the info applies to other tendinopathies as well. www.treatmyachilles.com/post/supplements-that-can-help-achilles-tendinopathy

Mine does not hurt from lifting my wrist but from lifting my arm and also straitening my arm out in front of me or (especially) making a fist. It feels like I banged and bruised my elbow but I didn't and it's worse after hiking quite a few hours and it's a little better the next day but not 100% better. When it really hurts after a hike I can barely lift my hand to my face. Never had anything like this before. Lifting my wrist is just about the only thing that does NOT make it hurt. It came on suddenly three weeks ago and is getting worse. It's right in the joint between the two bumps. Does not hurt when I do a pushup . . . very strange.

I think i have this issue. i have pain in my elbow when i extend my arm during chest press. I will deload and use lighter weight instead. I wonder if it is ok to keep exercise with light weight as long as i no longer feel pain during workout? is it good enough for deload or i need to rest my arm completely?

Try deload first - if it then remains painful and you don’t see any change then you may have to stop completely for a week or two and then slooooowly load it again.

Does that pain mean I am worsening my elbow's condition? i am doing exercises for both my hands ... but most of the time I need to apply ice on my right hand ... Please help me out of this issue

Great video, thank you. If I may suggest an improvement; to put 'marker' 'indexes' on the progress bar that are 'in sync' with the graphics you show. Many other YT vids I have seen employ these. As I recall they have visible 'markers' in the progress bar, and when you mouse hover over then a tiny pop up window appears to that tells you what subject change that 'marker' indicates.And this allows the viewer to jump to a particular area in the video for review, etc.. Wish I knew HOW to do this, but as a viewer and not a creator, I hope that may already be a concept known to you. Also, more 'under the skin' images of the layout and structure of the areas involved would help. Thanks again for a great video. I appreciate that you go from A to Z instead of just hitting on part of the overall subject.
