@@mireafelder8194 For me, the modern game of tennis doesn’t seem to make much difference? Dr. Joe Baker wrote a great book The Tyranny of Talent: ( an expert in helping young athletes to get better) and How it Compels and Limits Athletic Achievements in young players. For example Alcaraz has been injured more in the last 2 years than Federer in his entire career and when he did it was in his late 30’s, its like the pressure thats put on these young players who show promise, is off the scale ,most would crumble under such pressure. So yeah Alcaraz is improving , but something needs to be added . Look at what happened to del Potro. He was 20 when he won the US open beating Federer. Then injury’s started slowly happening ,pressure. Pat Cash said this years ago. Or what?

Absolutely phenomenal compilation. Carlos will only get better over time. As deadly as his forehand is, i believe he will steike a balance between pace and spin in the future. Right now, he is dropping it short with too much spin but when he flattens that ahot, point over. Sinner is striking the right balance and that plus serve placement is his biggest scope for improvement.
@pureffm8 ай бұрын
Agree completely. We have already seen him do this at Indian Wells, varying effects and flattening it out as needed. The short topspin balls cost him Cinncinati and Masters final.
@z1az2858 ай бұрын
@@pureffm I don't know if you saw his match vs monfils today, but what was remarkable in my opinion was monfils was the aggressor in the beginning of the match and he was going for broke many times, Carlos was quite restrained but he was defending and placing the ball extremely well and redirecting superbly. he went big a few times when he had openings but not always, and placed the ball fairly deep when he hit with spin. the increased maturity carried over from indian wells and though humid conditions and the slow dunlop balls aren't ideal for him, he is adjusting well it seems.
@pureffm8 ай бұрын
@@z1az285 Yes, the Dunlop balls are less effective for topsin compared ot his favorite heavy duty Wilson balls but Carlos flattened out nicely throughout the match. He was indeed patient and he uses slices and squash shots beautifully if he has to as well.

That's the biggest strength and weakness of Alcaraz, he loves to go for Wow shots and pleasing the crowds, but there are matches and opponents where he needs to play boring "solid" tennis to have that edge over the opponent. That's exactly what Sinner is doing, his matches are so much more boring to watch compared to Alcaraz, but he's so damn solid
@SJ-di5zu9 ай бұрын
Sinner is fun to watch in his own way. I love the pure ball-striking and hitting off both wings. But his highlight reel is like 40% as good as Alcaraz’s. I looked at his “top 10 AO points” and a lot of them were super routine, with only a few long rallies against Medvedev being the exciting points. I think Sinner is at his most entertaining when he plays against a retriever, freakishly fast type of player who can hang in the rallies. Carlitos’s need to go for highlights doesn’t hurt him most of the time. My issue with him is that he’s super well-rounded, but not very tactically smart, which leads to him choosing to do the wrong things. Playing super defensive against Sinner is a death trap, but he has tried it a few times including Beijing. On the other hand, against Zverev he was erratically going for lines and trying to take charge when his ground strokes just weren’t clicking. He said he “couldn’t feel the ball early in the match,” but why didn’t he start playing defensively and rally until he starts to feel the ball better? Hopefully he’ll start playing smarter when JCF comes back and he’ll gain some confidence in these coming events. I see no reason for him to not repeat what he did last 2 seasons more or less: win one of the Sunshine Double events, win a clay Masters, have consistent deep runs, and seriously contend for RG.
